Jonathan Bailey recently opened up about the "whole experience" of filming Fellow Travellers while also shooting for Bridgerton and Wicked, saying he owes a lot to the "amazing producers" who made it work.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, published on Friday, August 15, the actor recalled his packed schedule while filming for three different projects at the same time, saying:
"I think it was 32 days in a row where I didn't have one day off."
Talking about having to fly back and forth, which he had to do on four occasions, the Bridgerton actor recalled:
"I'd go from Hawk's house in the '60s at the cabin, go straight to the airport, sleep on the plane, go straight to a regency ball, sleep there, then go straight to Wicked to be learning choreography."
Jonathan Bailey noted that he would be late in joining the Wicked crew because of all the traveling. When he did arrive on set, everyone would have already started filming, but Marc Platt had made it work, and he has a lot of gratitude for the producer.
The actor said he had to figure out whether he had to brush up on his choreography lessons for the day, work on his American accent, or "pelt your hair ready for another Bridgerton snog."
Jonathan Bailey says music helped him keep track of the different roles he's had to play
Shooting three different projects at the same time and playing three different roles in varying eras was difficult to manage, but music helped Bailey stay on track. When THR asked him how he managed it, he said:
"I probably wouldn't rush into doing that again. Music for me, is absolutely key, but it always sort of has been."
He called that experience "an absolute freefall" and remains in gratitude to his family and friends who have been patient with him when he had to "sign off for a bit."
The actor also talked about the gratitude he feels for some of the roles he's played. In Fellow Travelers, he stars as Tim Laughlin alongside Matt Bomer's Hawk Fuller, and playing Tim, according to Bailey, was an "incredibly happy place to be." He appreciated the complexity of his character, including the constant battle between what's right and wrong in Tim's head.
But while he enjoyed playing the idealistic congressional staffer who fell in love with Bomer's character in the series, it had consequences, especially because he was shooting for Bridgerton at the same time.
Jonathan Bailey said that his hair died "from all the perming and straightening" because he had to straighten his hair for Fellow Travelers and perm it for his character as Anthony in Bridgerton.
Recalling all the preparation he had to do for both roles, the actor said that he felt like a "teenage beauty advert."
