After years of fans clamoring for Nova to make his Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut, Kevin Feige has finally revealed that a project based on the popular superhero is in development. The cosmic superhero is set to receive his own show on Disney+.

In an interview published on July 20, 2024, Marvel Studios President Feige told ComicBook that Nova (Richard Rider) is soon to make his MCU debut. He also confirmed that the series is at least three to four years away as of now.

"It's happening, it's coming together. Richard Rider, yep. A show, yeah." Kevin Feige confirmed.

Before Kevin Feige, Brad Winderbaum had previously mentioned the Nova project in an interview

Kevin Feige's comments come just a few months after Marvel Studio's Head of Streaming, Brad Winderbaum, discussed the plans to make new interesting shows. In another interview with ComicBook on March 16, 2024, he revealed that a project with Richard Rider is in very early development as well. He said:

"We have a new system behind the scenes at Marvel Studios. We're more like a traditional studio now. We're developing more than we actually will produce."

Winderbaum added:

"There are plans to develop Nova. I love Nova, too. I love Rich Rider, too. I hope it gets to the screen. The world is always chaos. There's always things. You gotta conjure these things to make them happen but I would love to see a Nova show, one day."

While he didn't outright confirm that a show based on the character would be happening, Feige's recent comments have given proper confirmation about the show to the fans.

Who is Nova? Character's origins explored

Richard Rider was a superhero that was created by Marv Wolfman and John Buscema, and he first appeared in June, 1976. His career as the superhero started just when he was a teenager residing in New York. He was chosen at random by a dying Rhomann Dey, a Centurion of Xandar's Nova Corps, to become his successor.

The reason Dey came to Earth was because he was tracking the pirate known as Zorr, who was responsible for destroying his planet. Not being able to get revenge himself, Dey had to transfer over his powers to Rider. He did it in the hopes that Rider would be able to succeed him and carry on his cause. However, upon receiving the powers, Rider fell comatose.

Dey then explained to him telepathically why he was chosen, and Rider woke up immediately in a hospital room and made his way home. He was again met by a transmission of Dey who gave him his Centurion uniform. Rider quickly learned that he had powers, the ability to fly, invulnerability, and also a built-in life-support system in his suit.

Rider then became a part of the corps and the cosmic side of Marvel. Even though he didn't know what to do with his powers, he still took on the life of a superhero and fought bad guys while maintaining peace as well.

Given that the Corps is already a thing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans can expect him to be connected to that in the franchise, but it remains to be seen who will play him.
