Kim Cattrall debunks rumors about her character Samantha Jones appearing in Sex and the City spinoff And Just Like That

Kim Cattrall recently set the record straight after rumors emerged that she would be returning for the third season of And Just Like That after her brief cameo in the show's second season.

In a Sunday, July 21, tweet, the actress commented in a reshared article from Elle with a title, "It looks like #KimCattrall (a.k.a. Samantha Jones) will be back for And Just Like That...season 3 after all!" Directly responding to the speculation in the article, she wrote:

"Aw that's so kind but I'm not."

For the unversed, Kim Cattrall reprised her role as Samantha Jones for a mere 70 seconds in And Just Like That season 2 finale, titled The Last Supper Part Two: Entree, where she's shown to be a PR mogul based in London.

Her brief cameo, even if it was only to say sorry to her former client and BFF from Sex and the City, Carrie Bradshaw (played by Sarrah Jessica Parker), on the phone for missing her apartment farewell dinner, was one of the highlights of the revival's second season.

Kim Cattrall has no plans of returning as Samantha Jones in a larger capacity

While her brief cameo in And Just Like That season 2 was a treat to fans and many would like her return as Samantha Jones, it's not the first time Kim Cattrall has said that she won't be back to reprise the role in a larger capacity.

When news broke that she would be making a cameo in the revival early in 2023 after refusing to be part of any continuations for years, she said that a cameo is as far as she would go. In an interview with Honda Kobe and Jenna Bush Hager in Today, she talked about what it was like to momentarily return to her Sex and the City character, saying:

"It felt like dipping my toe back in time and having a wonderful afternoon, and then a great martini."

But when she was asked if she'd like to dip her "toe" further into the TV show, she quickly shut it down, saying:

"That's as far as I'll go."

That said, the actress has much appreciation for the character, saying that she doesn't think she will "ever say goodbye to Samantha" and that, like a lot of characters she's played over the years, she gets emotional and protective. She also noted that playing Samantha has given her "so much."

Long before her cameo in the revival's second season, Cattrall had already said that she wouldn't be returning to reprise the role. After filming Sex and the City 2, the film adaptation in 2010, Kim Cattrall noted that she was "done" with the show.

And while fans may haven't seen her as part of the regular And Just Like That cast, short of her brief cameo, she wasn't entirely written off the script either. In the revival's storyline, Samantha is now living in London after falling out with her former BFF Carrie.
