Lady in the Lake's first full trailer gives a glimpse at the riveting mystery surrounding Natalie Portman

Lady in the Lake is one of the most highly anticipated shows on Apple TV+ this year. The streaming service finally provided the first full trailer for Lady in the Lake on earlier today, and it features Natalie Portman and Moses Ingram in very exciting new roles.

The thriller series follows how the lives of two women from very different backgrounds converge into one following a horrific incident. The upcoming series is based on Laura Lippman's novel of the same name. The film is inspired by two murders that took place in Baltimore back in the 1960s, witnessed by Lippman herself.

The trailer of Lady in the Lake showcases Natalie Portman as Maddie Schwartz. She is a housewife who forgoes her domestic lifestyle to pursue a career in journalism. However, her investigation into the murder of an African-American woman named Cleo Sherwood (Moses Ingram) leads to a thrilling revelation.

The trailer features stunning visuals and snippets of some powerful acting from both the leading ladies of the upcoming Apple TV+ series. The trailer also hints towards a shifting timeline as a deceased Cleo Sherwood narrates how Portman's Maddie Schwartz reduced her identity to a Lady in the Lake'.Apple TV+ has announced that the series will premiere on the streaming service on July 19, 2024.


What is Lady in the Lake about?

Lady in the Lake is a thriller series that explores the themes of racism and misogyny through the story of the murder of a young African-American woman in Baltimore. The plot follows a unique take on portraying the themes through the lenses of two women from completely different social backgrounds.

The official synopsis reads:

"When the disappearance of a young girl grips the city of Baltimore on Thanksgiving 1966, the lives of two women converge on a fatal collision course. Maddie Schwartz (Natalie Portman) is a Jewish housewife seeking to shed a secret past and reinvent herself as an investigative journalist, and Cleo Johnson (Moses Ingram) is a mother navigating the political underbelly of Black Baltimore while struggling to provide for her family."

It further continues:

"Their disparate lives seem parallel at first, but when Maddie becomes fixated on Cleo’s mystifying death, a chasm opens that puts everyone around them in danger. From visionary director Alma Har’el, “Lady in the Lake” emerges as a feverish noir thriller and an unexpected tale of the price women pay for their dreams."

The director Alma Har'el is known for her acclaimed feature film Honey Boy (2019) and has been hailed as one of the best contemporary female directors. The series features an ensemble cast, along with Natalie Portman and Moses Ingram. They are joined by Y'lan Noel, Mikey Madison, Noah Jupe, Mike Epps, Selema Masekela, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Ronnie Gene Blevins, David Corenswet, and Angela Robinson, among others.


The series features a total of seven episodes, as per Apple TV+. It will premiere with its first two episodes on July 19, 2024. The following episodes will be released subsequently, with the series finale scheduled to premiere on August 23, 2024.
