Taylor Sheridan's Lioness, created for Paramount+, debuted in July 2023 with its first season. Starring Zoe Saldana as CIA Officer Joe, the series delves into Team Lioness, a group of female Marines who fought for the United States in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Season 1, which consisted of 8 episodes, saw Cruz Manuelos, played by Laysla De Oliveira, go undercover to befriend the daughter of a terrorist financier. According to IMDB, the series has the following official synopsis, where it received a healthy 7.7 rating.
“CIA operative Joe attempts to balance her personal and professional lives as the tip of the spear in the agency's war on terror.”
The first season's success had initially led to a speedy renewal, which came earlier in May 2024, according to Deadline. Season 2 is set to premiere on October 27, 2024, for which Paramount+ released a trailer earlier today (September 20, 2024). The 1-minute 36-second watch promises a thrilling season 2, with new cast members and the return of familiar faces from the first season.
Lioness season 2 promises more action, known faces, and a war on US soil!
The trailer did not reveal many details about the kind of plot fans can expect from the upcoming season. However, it promised a thrilling narrative, with the Lioness team set to deal with a domestic terrorist threat. This means that the upcoming missions will take place on US soil.
Joe, Saldana's character, will again be seen leading the team, with Michael Kelly's Byron and Nicole Kidman's Kaitlyn also featuring heavily in the clip. It also featured the likes of Laysla De Oliveira, Genesis Rodriguez, and Morgan Freeman, who all seem to be dealing with different elements of the same terrorist threat.
The trailer saw Joe telling Byron she must hire another officer to go undercover. She will also likely undergo further family drama in the coming season, as her husband Neal, played by Dave Annable, is seen throwing a phone out of frustration in the trailer.
After a thrilling first season in which Joe made multiple sacrifices for her team, it seems as if she will be back in action in season 2. The trailer also promises that Byron and Kyle will be forced into the field, setting up a potentially thrilling and complicated threat that the Lioness team will face.
With the release of season 2 still some months away, fans can expect further trailers to be released in the coming weeks. The clip featured some stellar dialogue.
Zoe Saldana's Joe can be heard saying:
“There’s no such thing as a moral war. There’s survival, and there’s surrender.”
Kidman's Kaitlyn followed this, claiming that "no one can be trusted." Further, Morgan Freeman's character is seen saying:
“How did we get to where we are today? Nobody’s innocent. Nobody.”
The above lines are bound to attract further curiosity, and fans can expect an equally thrilling ride in season 2, as the first one delivered. Lioness Season 2 will hit Paramount+ on October 27, 2024.
