After their arrests in the Johnny Wactor case, the police also released a statement and said:
”Early this morning, the Los Angeles Police Department's Central Bureau Homicide conducted search warrants relating to the John Wactor case at several locations throughout Los Angeles.”
As per People Magazine, Wactor was killed after the four men were attempting to steal a catalytic converter from Johnny’s vehicle. The arrests took place on August 15, 2024, just a week after the police released images of the suspects taken from surveillance footage.
The police also stated that Barceleau, Gutierrez, and Estrada have been charged with murder, while Olano has been charged as an accessory in the crime. People Magazine also stated that Johnny Wactor's brother, Grant Wactor spoke to the publication and revealed that Johnny was working as a bartender that night, and as soon as he started to approach his vehicle at 3:25 AM, he was killed by the men.
Grant Wactor also revealed that Johnny Wactor was accompanied by his female colleague, and he moved in front of her colleague to save her but ended up getting shot himself. Medical force and the police reached the area as soon as the incident took place and shifted the actor to a hospital, where he was declared dead.
Four men booked for Johnny Wactor’s killing will be held in lieu of a $2 million bond
As the police revealed details about the arrests made in the Johnny Wactor killing, the LAPD also stated that each of the men is now being held in lieu of a $2 million bond. Furthermore, the Mayor of the area, Karen Bass also released a statement after the four men were arrested, and said:
"I want to thank LAPD for their partnership and hard work on this case and for their continued efforts to keep Angelenos safe and to bring justice to victims of violence. Now, we must ensure that those who are responsible for this brazen and heinous act are held fully accountable."
CBS News reported that following the arrests, Johnny Wactor's mother, Scarlett Wactor also expressed her frustration, and now hopes for their harshest penalties. She said:
"These guys are too brazen. The law has enabled them to just be like they're above it ... I'm so grateful and thankful and hope that those previous things that they were arrested for maybe they can be stacked on top of what is happening now. They're getting a chance at life that he doesn't have. They're breathing air that they don't deserve to breathe ... If the death penalty was available, that'd be fantastic, in my opinion."
