After FRIENDS actor Matthew Perry was found dead at his LA home, in a hot tub on October 28, 2023, the whole world grieved his untimely death. Alongside grieving, fans have also taken an interest in seeking the reason behind Perry's untimely demise. As per the autopsy, a ketamine overdose was the reason behind Perry's death.
The autopsy report revealed that,
"There were trace amounts of ketamine detected in the stomach contents. He was reported to be receiving ketamine infusion therapy for depression and anxiety.”
A piece of recent news has sparked a new update on the Matthew Perry Case. Mark Chavez, a doctor who was involved in the case, recently reached a plea agreement on August 30, 2024, in the Los Angeles court, concerning Perry’s ketamine OD. In the upcoming weeks, he is expected to plead guilty to being directly involved in the actor's untimely demise. He will return to court sometime in October, for a hearing.
Who is Mark Chavez?
Mark Chavez is a San Diego doctor/physician, 54 years of age. He got his doctorate from the David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA. In a recent court hearing, the doctor revealed that he wanted to plead guilty and agree to the fact that he gave ketamine to Perry one time. He was freed on a $50,000 bond.
As per reports, Mark Chavez has already surrendered his medical license and will appear in court in October, to finalize his guilty plea.
Matthew Binninger, Mark Chavez's lawyer said on Friday said -
“He’s incredibly remorseful. He’s trying to do everything in his power to right the wrong that happened here. He didn’t accept responsibility today but only because it wasn’t on the calendar. He’s doing everything in his power to cooperate and help with this situation."
Concerning Mark Chavez's submitting his medical license, and opting out of his profession, his lawyer said -
"Even when he can reapply that would be very difficult. My guess is he’s going to have to pivot into a new way of living.”
What are the charges against Matthew Perry’s doctors?
Reportedly, the FRIENDS actor Matthew Perry had been taking Ketamine daily and regularly before his death and the dosages were unregulated. As per court documents, he took ketamine 6-8 times daily, before his demise. The charges against the doctors are that they distributed Ketamine to Matthew Perry.
A total of five people have been charged with Perry's demise. Among the five two are doctors ~ Salvador Plasencia and Mark Chavez.
Other than the doctors, Kenneth Iwamasa (Perry’s assistant), Jasveen Sangha aka the 'Ketamine Queen,' and Eric Fleming have been charged with Perry’s death. Chavez, who has decided to plead guilty could be jailed for a decade soon as per reports. Meanwhile, Salvador Plasencia hasn’t pleaded guilty at the time of writing this article.
After the hearing on Friday, August 30, 2024, Binninger also said that -
“Matthew Perry was larger than life… he was a human being that people cared about. Had it been a non-celebrity, I can assure you we’d be playing things out the exact same way, because the federal government did a really good job in the investigation.”
