Matthew Perry's family is pushing for justice against the five people who supplied the actor with drugs that led to his fatal overdose. October 28, 2024, marks Perry's first death anniversary, and his family has finally chosen to speak out about what they think of the current investigation into the Friends star's death.

Perry's mother, Suzanne Morrison, did a joint sit-down interview with her husband and Perry's stepfather, Keith Morrison, and her three daughters, Caitlin, Emily, and Madeline, with Today on October 28. Keith Morrison, who is also a Dateline NBC correspondent, said:

"What I'm hoping, and I think the agencies that got involved in this are hoping, that people who have put themselves in the business of supplying people with the dr*gs that'll kill them—they are now on notice."

He also has a message for the people charged in relation to Matthew Perry's death. He said:

"It doesn't matter what your professional credentials are. You're goin' down, baby."

The actor's mother also shared how "thrilled" she is about the indictment. Among those charged are Perry's live-in assistant Kenneth Iwamasa, Jasveen Sangha, aka "The Ketamine Queen," Erik Fleming, and doctors Mark Chavez and Salvador Plasencia.

Matthew Perry's family remembers the late actor on his first death anniversary

Shortly after his death, Matthew Perry's family honored the actor by launching the Matthew Perry Foundation of Canada in hopes of helping others struggling with drug addiction. The late actor's sister, Caitlin Morrison, heads the foundation as its executive director.

She told Today everything about the foundation and how his brother wanted to help people on Monday, saying:

"He made it a big focus of his life to help other people, to encourage other people to say, I need help.' He tried to make people see that that was a brave thing."

Caitlin remembered his late brother as someone who would "drop everything" when someone came and asked him for help. She said that helping other people gave the late Friends star a "sense of purpose."

Suzanne Morrison also recalled the actor coming up to her and saying how he loved her shortly before his death, adding:

"It was almost as though it was a premonition or something. I didn't think about it at the time, but I thought, 'How long has it been since we have had a conversation like that?' It's been years."

Perry's family also recalled how the late actor lit up the room whenever he was in it, but his stepfather noted that his exterior sunny personality hid "an insecure and often very sad guy." Matthew Perry's mom also mentioned that the late actor "was also very lonely in his soul."

In Keith Morrison's interview with People, he also shared what Matthew Perry's dying wish was. He said:

"[He wants to be remembered] for helping people, more than his famousness for Friends."

The Dateline correspondent noted that his "dying wish" has become the family's mission in life, especially through The Matthew Perry Foundation of Canada.

There is also another foundation in honor of the late actor based in the US, where the late actor's former manager, Doug Chapin, serves as the board president.

He told People on the actor's death anniversary that their focus is to help "fill the gaps" in the recovery journey of people wanting to break their addiction.
