Cheryl Burke appeared on the Amy and T.J. Podcast on April 16, 2024, where she spoke up on many things, including her absence from an episode of Dancing with the Stars in October last year. The episode paid tribute to dancer Len Goodman, who was an important part of the show for around 17 years.
While Burke did not reveal the exact reason for not being invited to the episode, she referred to her podcast titled S*x, Lies, & Spray Tans and said:
"I would assume that some people may not be happy with my podcast that I have here with iHeart. Maybe it's the title."
The I Can Do That star has been involved with the ABC reality series since 2006 and even participated in a few tours. During her appearances on the show, she collaborated with partners such as Maurice Greene, Chad Ochocinco, and Emmitt Smith.
Cheryl Burke reveals more details about her time on Dancing with the Stars
While the California, U.S., native clarified the reasons for being absent in an episode of Dancing with the Stars in 2023, she said that she was willing to invite any former contestant of the reality show to her podcast. Cheryl Burke, while speaking to the hosts Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes, said she was ready to talk to those who had been eliminated.
"This show is something that is a special experience that you go through these different emotions, and I think it's important that we talk, and I think it's entertaining for the fans who have been sticking by their side for so many decades now, and it's just a great time. It's just like an hour long."
Cheryl Burke even praised Dancing with the Stars, saying that the participants always "took something away," and she was thankful for her overall experience with the show. She also confirmed that she had a romantic link with three of her partners.
She revealed that Chad Ochocinco expressed his love on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and even bought a ring worth $10,000. However, she did not disclose the other two partners' identities and recalled that some people "from the show" had tied the knot.
She added that it is easy to get attracted to anyone since they spend seven days with each other.
"They're vulnerable, and especially as a professional woman who was a ballroom dancer teaching, let's say the athlete, for example, who feels like this macho [person], all of a sudden has to be like, 'I don't know if I can shift.'"
Cheryl Burke speaks on how she began to love herself
The I Can Do That star addressed the problems she faced when she appeared on Dancing with the Stars. She said she had to follow a "strict diet" so that she could wear a particular outfit on the show, adding that she put up a lot of weight as she continued participating.
Cheryl Burke also recalled the time when there were discussions regarding her weight on the news and said:
"Did I gain a few pounds during the hiatus? Yes, naturally, right we do? I am curvy in comparison to a lot of the other professional women so whenever I did gain weight it was a thing."
The 39-year-old said she was never forced to try a specific size for any outfit and never cared about how others would look at her, which affected her "behind the scenes."
"It would really alter my mood to where, if I felt heavy or if I felt bloated, and I was putting on a costume, then all my insecurities would come out on other people, onto my partner, just in general, just because of that self hate that I had for myself," she said.
Cheryl Burke even spoke about her exit from the show in 2022, saying that she was not willing to do the same at first. She mentioned that her career in dancing would have led to a lot of physical pain, and while she wanted to do something else inside the show, things did not work out as planned.
