Apple TV+ original Where's Wanda? deals with the story of a teenager who goes missing one fateful day, causing her parents to take things into their own hands. But while the summary may suggest a dark and brooding show, Where's Wanda? is a lighthearted take on an otherwise depressing genre.
Sportskeeda had the chance to speak to Heike Makatsch (Carlotta Klatt), Lea Drinda (Wanda Klatt), and Axel Stein (Dedo Klatt) for an exclusive interview. The first Apple TV+ German original is a thrill to watch even with subtitles, for those that don't speak the language. Because the tone of 'how far would you go for someone you love?' is universal.
Needless to say, many laws are broken as The Klatts search for Wanda in the Apple TV+ original. The actors, who did such a spectacular job in playing the characters, mentioned how they would have reacted in much the same way, under the circumstances.
How far would the cast of Where's Wanda go for someone they love? We asked the cast of the Apple TV+ original!
German actor Axel Stein may play a goofy, bumbling man on the show, but he was measured when he responded by saying:
"Well, how far would you go? I think you can only find out in that particular situation. I personally try to stay away from that thought. Because should you ever end up in a situation like that, I’d probably be willing to do anything. Because no one except for me could actually do something. I mean the whole situation is one of helplessness and I would imagine, I would write my own laws, so to speak."
Lea Drinda, who plays Wanda on the Apple TV+ original, echoed the thoughts of her on-screen father:
"I mean it’s unimaginable. It really is an absurdly difficult situation. And to really try to think and feel like you are in such a situation, for an actor and in this series, you might try and give it your best."
She continued:
"But to be confronted with this brazen, tragic story in real life…that is something that I think…at least from our point of view…you can’t really get into real deep enough. Not even as an actor you’d really know what it would be really like. It’s really tough. But I don’t think any one of us would be sitting around stirring their cup of tea right?"
To lighten the tone of the conversation, Sportskeeda asked how three amazing comedic actors ensured that the comedy did not overpower the seriousness of the story being told. Heike Makatsch replied:
"Well, we had to have an eye on that. Let’s put it that way. I think the most important thing for all of us was that the situations that our individual characters were in…we took those situations seriously. That we were aware that it was a serious situation they were in."
