Daredevil: Born Again made a big splash at Disney's D23 event last week on August 9, 2024, where the first trailer for the series was showcased behind closed doors. The trailer saw Matt Murdock and Kingpin share a scene and featured brand new characters like Muse, White Tiger, and more, while previous characters like The Punisher were confirmed to return as well.

While Daredevil: Born Again seems to have a stacked cast, it looks like that list is just going to get bigger. According to popular leaker Daniel Richtman (@DanielRPK), actor Tony Dalton is reportedly set to reprise his role as Jack Duquesne aka Swordsman in the upcoming show.

With the character having previously appeared in Hawkeye, as it had a major connection to Daredevil as well as Kingpin being the primary antagonist, the rumor wouldn't seem that far-fetched.

Who is Swordsman in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

In the comics, Swordsman aka Jacques Duquesne was created by Stan Lee and Don Heck and first appeared in Avengers #19 in June 1965. He used to be a performer at various circuses and carnivals but was also a criminal on the side as he was a notorious thief. He also has a massive connection with Hawkeye as he trained him in blades and archery.

However, the Marvel Cinematic Universe took a huge swing with the character. In the Hawkeye show, Duquesne doesn't have any prior connection with Clint Barton but rather has a connection with Kate Bishop. In the show, Duquesne is rather engaged to Kate Bishop's mom, and his origins are completely reworked as well.

He was born into a wealthy family and has never had to work a day in his life. However, he does have an obsession with swords and is a professional at handling them - thus he maintains the title of the Swordsman as well. While the character doesn't have anything in common with his comic book counterpart, he still is the Swordsman and has a connection to the street-level MCU.

What is known about Daredevil: Born Again?

So far, we know that alongside Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock and Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin, Daredevil: Born Again will also feature the return of many Netflix Marvel characters. While previously they weren't meant to appear in the show, the series will see Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Wilson Bethel as Bullseye, and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle return.

Alongside them, Kamar de Los Reyes will also join the show as Hector Ayala / White Tiger. It's currently unclear what the plot of Daredevil: Born Again will be, however, it won't be a loose adaptation of the comic of the same name as the plotline was already used in Daredevil season 3.

The series was also recently retooled to fit in with the Marvel Netflix shows. This led to Marvel Studios letting go of previous showrunners Chris Ord and Matt Corman. They then hired Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead of Loki season 2 fame with The Punisher writer Dario Scarpadane acting as the new writer.

While Tony Dalton's return is just rumored as of now, it would be advised to take the news with a pinch of salt. All will be revealed when Daredevil: Born Again premieres next year on Disney+.
