Shannen Doherty, the American actress known for roles in Charmed and Beverly Hills, 90210, passed away at age 53 after battling cancer. Tributes poured in from friends and former co-stars, including Jennie Garth from Beverly Hills, 90210, who shared a close friendship with Doherty.

In a lengthy Instagram post that she used to describe their relationship, Garth claimed that Shannen Doherty was one of the strongest people that she had known:

"I am still processing my tremendous grief over the loss of my long-time friend Shannen, the woman I have often described as one of the strongest people I have ever known. Our connection was real and honest."

The post comes despite consistent reports claiming that the two share animosity towards each other. However, Garth claimed that their relationship was always built on mutual respect and admiration, and that the two did not care about the way the media pitted them against each other:

"We were so often pitted against each other but none of that reflected the truth of our real relationship which was one built on mutual respect and admiration. She was courageous, passionate, determined and very loving and generous. I will miss her and will always honor her deeply in my heart and in my memories. My heart breaks for her family and Bowie and all the people who loved her. 💔"

Bowie, who is Doherty’s pet dog, was also mentioned in the post, as Garth revealed how he had been a loving companion to her friend right till the very end.

The actress documented her journey via her Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty podcast, and in a recent episode, had been seen talking about how she planned to secure a future for her loved ones.

“I guess I’m in a mindset now of I need to make as much money as humanly possible in the next two years, bank it, put it with my investment place, build that so that A., I don’t have to work and I only work when I really want to.I can also go on a lot more vacations. Then also when I pass away my mom’s got a nice little nest egg and I don’t have to worry about her.”
