TikToker Miranda Derrick recently opened up about her life after the release of Netflix's documentary Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult. In an Instagram post uploaded on June 10, she spoke about her relationship with her family, who alleged in the title that she had cut ties with them after joining a religious organization in 2020.
Derrick revealed in her recent post that her life is in danger, as she has been receiving death threats and hate mail since the documentary was released on May 29, 2024.
"Before this documentary, my husband and I, we felt safe. Now that this documentary is out, we feel like our lives have been put in danger," she said.
Miranda Derrick earlier shared a statement and bashed the documentary, calling it "one-sided," as per Just Jared. While Miranda said that she loved her parents and sister, she added:
"I gave my life to Jesus Christ in 2020 and asked my family for some space in the very beginning to collect my thoughts and process my new walk I wanted to take with God."

"We have both been followed in our cars" — Miranda Derrick sheds light on impact of Netflix documentary
TikToker Miranda Derrick shared an update online and mentioned that her life was in danger after the release of the Netflix documentary. She narrated her experiences and mentioned that she and her husband James "BDash" Derrick had been receiving hate mail, death threats, and more.
"We have both been followed in our cars, we have received hate mail, death threats, people have been sending us messages to commit su*cide, and we’ve been stalked," she said.
She added:
"Someone said that, if I see you on the street, I’m going to come and get you so you better get security. Someone also said that, if I see you walking on the sidewalk, I’m going to come and shove you in the trunk of my car."
Derrick further spoke about the impact of the documentary on her relationship with her family. The TikToker expressed her confusion as she wondered how her family believed the title would help her or their bond with her.
"I honestly — I don’t understand how my parents and my sister thought that this documentary would help me or would help our relationship in any way. I just don’t understand that," she said.
Miranda Derrick mentioned that the family had been coming together to mend their relationship over the years, but added:
"Honestly, I think that my parents, my sister have focused so much on this documentary, that they’ve forgotten about working on any relationship with me and that hurts. That hurts me to say."
Miranda's sister shared her views on the documentary
According to the Netflix documentary, Miranda Derrick's family claimed that she and her husband joined the talent management company, 7M Films. The organization was founded by pastor Robert Shinn, who was also reportedly associated with the controversial Shekinah Church.
Unlike Miranda Derrick who believed the title was "one-sided," her sister Melanie had a different take on the Netflix documentary. She spoke to Access Hollywood about Miranda and her husband and said:
"They were reached out to many times, and declined every time."
She added:
"I went to two of their private dinners and two of the services that you have to be invited to, and I picked up on all these red flags. So, when she's saying that we weren't supportive, it was because I was seeing what she wasn't seeing."
7M Films also issued a statement to E! News after the Netflix documentary aired. They called the title "a slanderous work of fiction, born from a failed extortion attempt, and invented for the sole purpose of gaining fame and fortune."
