British actor Lucien Laviscount, known for his role as Alfie in Emily in Paris, recently opened up about his desire to play James Bond and work on action films in the future.
On May 26, the 31-year-old appeared in the latest issue of Us Weekly to promote his Smirnoff ICE SURPR-ICE partnership. Lucien talked about his character Alfie, and his interest in the action genre amid rumors he could be the famous 007 agent. He said:
"I’d love to dive into more action roles, we shot a movie last year that was one fight sequence after another with explosions going off left and right. I absolutely loved it. I think at some point to play James Bond would be the ultimate."
Laviscount was referring to his role in the sci-fi drama The Last Sentinel and the upcoming action thriller Copperhead.
The last actor to play the protagonist in the James Bond franchise was Daniel Craig. He began the portrayal in 2006 and concluded his run in 2021’s No Time to Die.
Various actors have been considered for the role in the 26th film since then, including Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Regé-Jean Page.
Netflix star Lucien Laviscount wants to play James Bond in the film about the British secret agent
Lucien Laviscount gained a lot of popularity while playing the love interest of Emily Cooper, played by Lily Collins, in the Netflix hit series Emily in Paris. The show came out on October 2, 2020, and the rumors of his potential chance at being cast as James Bond have been doing the rounds since January, last year.
Barbara Broccoli, the film's producer, told Variety in 2022:
"When we cast Bond, it's a 10-, 12-year commitment. So any potential Bond actor is probably thinking, 'Do I really want that thing?' Not everybody wants to do that. It was hard enough getting [Daniel Craig to do it]."
Craig played the MI6 agent for 15 years and five movies. He was the longest-tenured Bond and played the character in the 25th Bond film, No Time to Die.
Meanwhile, Lucien Laviscount clarified to US Weekly in an interview that he was open to playing the character. He also talked about work-life balance in the midst of his busy career. The actor said:
"The key for me is balance, balance in everything. I’d say my lifestyle in general is healthy, I love keeping active and getting out there trying new things. It’s difficult with work commitments and traveling to always be eating right and having that structure to be as disciplined as I would like. So it’s important to give myself grace and enjoy the journey."
Lucien Laviscount appeared in Shakira‘s Puntería music video, released on March 22, 2024. He is also currently filming scenes for the upcoming fourth season of Netflix’s hit comedy with Lily Collins.
The 26th James Bond film is not expected to be on cinema screens until 2025 at the earliest. The title of the film has also not been decided.
