Recently, Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota was compared with The Pink Panther actor Steve Martin due to their similar facial features. This comparison surfaced after Kamala Harris announced her choice for Vice President on Tuesday, August 6, selecting Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
Harris made the announcement on X, stating:
"As a governor, a coach, a teacher, and a veteran, he's delivered for working families like his. It's great to have him on the team."
In response, Walz stated:
"I’m all in. Vice President Harris is showing us the politics of what’s possible. It reminds me a bit of the first day of school."
Once the news became public across social media platforms, netizens took to X to joke about the entire incident. Some suggested that there should be a Saturday Night Live (SNL) skit featuring Steve Martin as Tim Walz, given their similarities in facial features and hair color. One X user commented:
"Seems like the obvious choice"
Other netizens expressed similar sentiments online.
“The new season of Only Murders in the White House is gonna be lit,” another X user said.
This X user referred to the Disney show Only Murder in the Building, where Steve Martin played the character of Charles-Haden Savage.
“OMG ITS PERFECT,” an X user wrote.
“This definitely needs to happen,” another user reacted.
Meanwhile, apart from Steve Martin, other netizens recommended some other celebrities for the role.
“Omg! Maya Rudolph and Steve Martin duo on SNL will really hit!” another one said.
“Also pitching Drew Carey,” another user wrote.
“I will always pitch drew Carey for anything,” one fan commented.
“How has nobody mentioned @alfranken,” a person wrote.
Kamala Harris announces Tim Walz as her choice for VP, who apparently looks a lot like Steve Martin
According to The Associated Press, on Tuesday, Kamala Harris chose Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate. KATC further reported that an individual with knowledge of the selection process stated that Walz was chosen for his executive background, compelling biography that resonates with Midwesterners, effective communication skills, and close personal relationship with Harris.
Before Harris' choice, Walz gained popularity for remarks he made on television news shows, where he described former President Donald Trump and Ohio Senator J.D. Vance as "just weird."
In an interview on July 23 with MSNBC's Morning Joe, he reiterated this sentiment, claiming that Republicans were "destroying" rural America and "telling us what books to read."
Walz stated:
"I think what Kamala Harris knows is bringing people together around the shared values—strong public schools, strong labor unions, health care that’s affordable and accessible."
As per Forbes, regarding Harris, Walz remarked:
"There's huge excitement," adding, "if it's any indication, my 17 and 23-year-old kids said TikTok's on fire."
Once the news of Harris choosing Walz went viral, people started pointing out that he looks a lot like Father of the Bride actor Steve Martin. They even took to X to point that out and pitch a possible skit script for the next Saturday Night Live show where Steve Martin might play the role of Tim Walz.
Some netizens agreed with this, while others chose other celebrities, like Drew Carey and Al Franken, who, according to them, might be better suited for the role.
Nevertheless, Harris didn’t say anything else about the whole incident.
