Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan released her very first pop song, a Real Housewives-inspired track titled Shoes... More Shoes. The actress took to Instagram on Friday, June 28, 2024, to announce the debut of her song.
According to the post, Nicola's song was inspired from an inteview in May 2024, during a press tour promoting season 3 of her hit Netflix series, Bridgerton. She wrote:
"Like Lennon & McCartney, Dylan and the other great lyricists I too wrote my first song by improvising some voice notes to @ellismiah in the 30 minutes I had before getting ready to go to Mighty Hoopla. Thank you to all the Queer Icons and Real Housewives who served as inspiration, I live for you."
Needless to say, the song was a hit among internet users. One fan, referencing her character's alter-ego from Bridgerton, the gossip columnist Lady Whistledown, commented:
"Shady Whistledown delivered again."
Netizens praised the song, saying it was 10/10. Here are some comments seen under Nicola's IG post:
Others gushed about Nicola Coughlan, saying:
Proceeds from Nicola Coughlan's debut song would go to two LGBTQ+ charities
Shoes... More Shoes was a collaborative effort between Coughlan and DJ and music producer Ellis Miah. Miah has previously worked with artists like Miley Cyrus, Annie Lennox, and RuPaul. His music is featured in shows like S*x and the City and RuPaul's Drag Race, as well as national commercials for brands like Klondike.
Per Nicola's post, proceeds from the song would benefit two LGBTQ+ charities, Not A Phase and The Trevor Project.
Inspiration for the song came from the actress' viral interview with co-star Luke Newton on Hits Radio UK (May 2024). When questioned about what her dream job would be like, the actress remarked:
"You know when the Real Housewives release pop songs exclusively for gay men. That’s like my dream job. They don’t even really sing. They just list things. They’re like, 'Shoes, and private yachts. Caviar, and more shoes.'"
Nicola Coughlan's lines "shoes, private yachts, caviar, more shoes" were later remixed by Ellis, who shared it on his TikTok with the caption:
"Lets get Nicola Coughlan (her) dream job and make her a club icon!"
In a press release for the song, the actress explained she was "thrilled" that her "encyclopedic knowledge of Real Housewives and Drag Race" allowed her the opportunity to be a part of the "silliest, funniest things (she's) ever gotten to do." Stating she was a fan of Ellis' Read U Wrote U, she expressed her honor that he decided to use her "random interview quote" and turn it into a "brilliant way to raise money."
Shoes... More Shoes is available to stream on all music services.
