Actress and filmmaker Justine Bateman fired off a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, November 8, 2024, saying that she has been "walking on eggshells" for the last for years. In another post, she called it an "un-American period," saying:

"I have found the last four years to be an almost intolerable period. A very un-American period in that any questioning, any opinions, any likes or dislikes were held up to a very limited list of "permitted positions" in order to assess acceptability."

The Family Ties and Desperate Housewives star added further that she didn't think such conditions could be considered as an "American environment." She also mentioned in one of her posts that "common sense was discarded," and that only certain speeches are allowed.

Following her rant on X, fans took to social media to comment on what Justine Bateman said. A Reddit user by the name of @DeadbutPretty stated that they are thankful that Bateman won't be silenced now.

"Thank GOD she can be hateful in public now! Wearing a mask is exhausting," a Reddit user commented.

Other netizens also agreed with Justine Bateman's take on free speech, with some saying that she should share her opinions publicly. Some others also said that they are expecting more celebrities like her to be open with sharing their opinions.

"She should share what opinions exactly she felt she had to keep inside. I mean, I feel like I have some idea, but...," a user on Reddit said.
"I'm expecting more celebrities who feel they've been silenced/muffled the last few years to show their true selves now," a Reddit user wrote.
"Agree 100%! Free speech is not "freedom of speech that offends me." Free speech is not politically correct speech. Free speech is not for government to regulate, it is free from regulation. Free speech is freedom," a user on X wrote.

However, not all netizens showed support for Justine Bateman's statements when it came to publicly sharing her opinions. Some netizens called her out for being a 'white woman,' with others thinking that she was cosplaying oppression and trying to paint herself as a martyr.

"Never underestimate a white woman's ability to cosplay oppression," a Reddit user commented.
"God I'm so tired of these people and their b*llsh*t persecution martyr complexes. YOU ARE A RICH WHITE WOMAN. THERE ARE NO CONSEQUENCES TO YOUR ACTIONS," a Reddit user pointed out.

Bateman's posts came after the sweeping Republican electoral victory that will see Donald Trump returning to the US presidential seat.

Justine Bateman previously broke down Donald Trump's victory meltdown videos on social media

Before the Hollywood star and filmmaker wrote a series of posts on X, Justine Bateman delivered her film critic's take on several meltdown videos on the platform after Donald Trump's victory.

Reposting a video of a woman freaking out about the election result, saying that Trump's America will be akin to the fictional series The Handmaid's Tale, Bateman commented on November 9:

"As a filmmaker, I want to point out the issues with these recently released projects. #SocialMediaVideoCritique. -The actress starts out 3/4 figure, but the she needs to lean over to have her 2-Ts shot in frame. Consider placing the camera higher, so she doesn’t have to."

In subsequent posts, the Desperate Housewives star criticizes the woman for adjusting her hair frequently in the video, which she said "breaks the focus on the scene." She also pointed out the lack of cinematic quality" in such videos.

She also critiqued Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's video like it's a movie, saying that there was a lighting mistake. Bateman also pointed out the "major" dialogue issue, as well as the wardrobe in the video.
