Mamie Laverock, the 20-year-old actress who starred in When Calls the Heart has been released from the hospital after being critically injured after a five-story balcony fall. Laverock had been in intensive care since May 11.
The announcement of her return was made on August 19, via her Facebook page with a picture of the 'Home Sweet Home' sign with Mamie Laverock’s photo on it. The post was accompanied by the caption:
"Dreams do come true. Welcome Home Mamie."
A response to a comment on the post revealed that despite being discharged from the hospital, Laverock's condition remains serious.
“She’s still severely injured but we will take care of her privately," her Facebook page responded. It added, "She needed to be at home. So happy for her. She made it this far... next chapter. It’s a blessing to have her home," it read.
Mamie Laverock's long recovery
Mamie Laverock spent several months receiving medical treatment after her fall on May 26. As per People, the actress was first brought to a hospital in Winnipeg by her mother Nicole Compton on May 11, due to a medical emergency. She was then taken to a hospital in Vancouver for treatment.
As per the Los Angeles Times, at the Vancouver hospital, the actress was allegedly being escorted from a secure unit at the healthcare facility, when due to the reported negligence of the hospital staff, she fell from the five-story walkway. Laverock was put on life support and underwent a series of surgeries.
Her family told the Los Angeles Times that they plan to take legal action against the hospital for gross negligence. The details of Laverock’s fall were revealed by her family through a GoFundMe page.
“We are deeply saddened to report that on May 26th, Mamie, who has been in intensive treatment for the past two weeks, was escorted out of a secure unit of the hospital and taken up to a balcony walkway from which she fell five stories," the page stated.
It added:
"She sustained life-threatening injuries, has undergone multiple extensive surgeries, and is currently on life support."
Laverock’s parents had shared updates on their daughter's critical surgeries on the GoFundMe page. They said that the actress underwent two 11-hour long surgeries, and a three-hour surgery, which was followed by another hour-long operation. They expressed gratitude towards the doctors and the hospital staff for their dedication.
Over the weeks, Mamie Laverock’s family has been actively sharing her progress on social media, thus giving people a glimpse of her difficult rehabilitation process. On August 2, her family posted a photo where Laverock is seen standing on her feet for the first time after the accident.
On July 18, Mamie Laverock shared a small thank-you note to her well-wishers on her GoFundMe page.
"Thank you Surgeons, thank you prayer and thank you God. Mamie standing for the first time. Aug. 2, 24," the photo was captioned.
Mamie Laverock's GoFundMe page raised 39,022 Canadian Dollars for her treatment. However, her parents stopped the donations on July 18. Back in July, just a day after Laverock turned 20, her mother shared that the actress managed to move her upper body and hug her for the first time since the fall.
As Mamie Laverock continues her recovery at home, her family remains hopeful about the progress she has made so far.
