House of the Dragon season 2 episode 6 may not have served as big surprises as some of the previous episodes of this season have, but after a tight and political episode, which seemed to be hanging on the balance of the gains and losses of the sides, this episode ended with a shocker. This came in the form of a tender and emotional moment between Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) and Lady Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno).
While this particularly heated moment may be at the forefront of all discussions about House of the Dragon season 2 episode 6, it will perhaps come as quite a shock to fans that this was unscripted. As confirmed by Mizuno, who continues to gather acclaim for her performance as the White Worm, this show-stealing moment was actually D'Arcy's idea after a lot of discussions with Ryan Condal.
However, it was not in the original script for House of the Dragon season 2.

Sonoya Mizuno reveals the journey to House of the Dragon season 2 episode 6's shocking twist
As revealed by the actress in her latest interview with The Wrap, this episode's final moments, which saw Mysaria and Rhaenyra, worn down by their past and present, coming together in a moment of solace and vulnerability.
After Rhaenyra reveals her ongoing turmoil and Mysaria reveals her haunting past, the two embrace, and this moment soon turns a bit more sensual, with Rhaenyra and Mysaria ultimately kissing, before being interrupted by the news of Seasmoke and its new rider.
Though something similar was slated to happen in this scene, Mizuno revealed that the kiss was an unscripted addition, originally suggested by D'Arcy. She elaborated:
"It wasn’t scripted as a kiss. I think it was scripted as … there’s just breath between them or something, and then whatever happens is interrupted,...Because we were separate in the room … [and] Mysaria has told this story, [D’Arcy] felt the instinct to hold her, to comfort her...From that, it felt so organic to go into the kiss."
She further explained how the embrace was a game-changing moment for both women. This was also the thing that ultimately led to the two sharing a kiss. Mizuno added:
"I don’t think either of them have been hugged like that in a long time, if not ever,...I think it was the hug — the intimate vulnerability of that hug — which which morphed into this very tender and passionate kiss, which was quite … amazing. I think it’s very thrilling in the moment for both of them."
Apart from Mysaria's loyalty to Rhaenyra, the two women are also bonded by their past with Daemon Targaryen, who has, in a way, used both women.

With Daemon (Matt Smith) still away at Harrenhal, and Mysaria playing as the primary mind in the Black side, it will be interesting to see how her dynamic with Rhaenyra evolves in the coming episodes.
This could have long-standing impacts on the future of House of the Dragon. The series is also edging towards its inevitable finale, which is likely to see more big moments.
The first six episodes of House of the Dragon are now streaming on Max.
