Sophia Bush has revealed that the much-anticipated reboot of One Tree Hill has been in development for nearly five years, but it's still not official. On her podcast, Drama Queens, on September 19, Bush shared insights into the status of the project, which fans have been eagerly awaiting.

The show’s reboot has been the subject of speculation for years, with rumors intensifying after Bush and co-star Hilarie Burton teased the possibility on Instagram in August. However, Bush cautioned that the project is still in the works, and no concrete announcements can be made yet.

"If it happens, I will be so freaking proud... that every single person gets to bring their expertise to the table now," Bush expressed during the podcast, highlighting her enthusiasm for the potential reboot.

She acknowledged that while the conversations have been ongoing, nothing is set in stone just yet.

During the episode, Sophia Bush, who played Brooke Davis in the beloved WB series for all nine seasons, answered fan questions with her co-host Robert Buckley.

They offered some new insights into the reboot's status, which PEOPLE had previously confirmed to be in the early stages of development.

"What I can say is that after, God, close to half a decade of these conversations, we've been able to all sort of divide and conquer in the coolest way. And those of us with TV producing experience are having some really exciting conversations," Sophia Bush revealed.
"It's been in development for some time. I think that's all I can say," she continued.

Sophia Bush's comments suggest that although the reboot has been under discussion for nearly five years, the development process has been slow and that there are still many hurdles to clear before it becomes a reality.

Bush also credited the fans of One Tree Hill for inspiring the idea of a reboot, noting how their continued enthusiasm has helped shape the discussions:

"The experiences we've had with the fans who've continually asked the coolest questions and made us think about, you know, where our whole ragtag gang of humans would be at this point [is what] has prompted the ideas."

While she hinted at the exciting possibilities for the reboot, Bush was careful not to reveal too much:

"I think that's all I can say on this podcast, but I do hope we have exciting updates, and I hope we get great news, and we have a big announcement."

Despite the promising discussions, Sophia Bush admitted that she was disappointed with how the news of the reboot broke. She mentioned that the development news had leaked before any official announcement.

"Do I wish that the news hadn't leaked before we could announce it was official? Sure. But if it happens, I will be so freaking proud," she said.

Sophia Bush emphasized that one of the most exciting aspects of the potential reboot is the talent involved, both in front of and behind the camera.

"Amongst the show's alums are TV and film producers, music producers, and novel writers," she noted.
"There's so much talent in this special group of circus performers that we are, and I don't know... If everything works out, it'll just be so great. We got a big bench now."

Her co-host, Robert Buckley, who joined One Tree Hill in season seven as Clay Evans, echoed her sentiments about the talented alumni.

"The roster is deep," he said. "I was actually thinking about that this morning. I was just going. You have a murder's row of people you can bring in here. Like, there's just heavy hitters from start to finish."

Buckley shared his optimism about the reboot, despite the premature leak of the news, which he called "a disservice to the fans." He explained that the early leak could potentially lead to disappointment if the reboot doesn't happen, but he remained hopeful:

"If I was a betting man, I would say it's gonna happen," he said. "Well, and I'm hoping it happens. Fingers crossed. But knowing it's y’all, I think it’s gonna happen."

While fans are excited about the possibility of seeing their favorite characters from One Tree Hill back on screen, the official word on whether the reboot will proceed is still pending.

Sophia Bush’s comments on the Drama Queens podcast suggest that the project is moving forward, but fans will have to wait for an official confirmation before getting their hopes up too high.

In the meantime, those wanting to relive the magic of One Tree Hill can stream all nine seasons of the show on Hulu and Max.
