Steve Carell is reportedly set to star in a new comedy show on HBO by Ted Lasso co-creator Bill Lawrence, as per Variety. The single-camera comedy show was reportedly handed a straight-to-series order with the first season set to consist of 10 episodes.
Ted Lasso co-creator Bill Lawrence will collaborate with Matt Tarses for this upcoming show, which will mark the duo's third collaboration in recent times, after Scrubs and Bad Monkey. The series hails from Warner Bros. Television, with whom Bill Lawrence recently renewed his deal, as per The Hollywood Reporter.
Steve Carell's upcoming comedy will be set on a college campus
While detailed information about the title has not been revealed as of this writing, Variety reported that this will be a standard sitcom-styled show, consisting of 10 half-an-hour episodes. It will take place on a college campus and will focus primarily on an author’s complicated relationship with his daughter. As per IGN, the official logline revealed by WB reads:
"A single-camera comedy set on a college campus, centering on an author’s complicated relationship with his daughter."
While no roles have been confirmed, many expect that Steve Carell may play the author in question. While HBO announced this series, Lawrence said in a statement as per Variety:
"HBO has long been a standard bearer of quality TV. Getting to do a show there with Steve Carell is an immediate career highlight for Matt and me. Nothing can go wrong now."

The Executive Vice President of HBO and Max comedy programming, Amy Gravitt, further added that Steve Carell and Bill Lawrence coming together promises a title "full of great laughs, warmth, and charm." Gravitt also called this project a "long overdue collaboration."
