American actor and comedian, Steve Carell, would not be making a cameo in the upcoming The Office spinoff, however, he recently revealed that he spoke to Domhnall Gleeson before the actor accepted one of the lead roles. On June 10, 2024, Carell made an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and talked about the new series.

"I know Domhnall Gleeson – who I did The Patient with – is going to be one of the leads. I know that for sure. He’s an excellent actor. And he actually called me and asked, you know, ‘Should I do this? Is this something… Did you enjoy it?’ I said of course. He’s great," Carell mentioned.

For the unversed, Steve Carell portrayed Michael Scott in Greg Daniels's adaptation of the original UK sitcom. Moreover, he played Alan Strauss in The Patient series, co-starring Domhnall Gleeson who essayed the role of Sam Porter.

Steve Carell shares his views on The Office spinoff

Steve Carell was a part of the American version of The Office for seven of the nine seasons. On Monday, Steve Carell briefly discussed the forthcoming spinoff series with host Jimmy Fallon. When Jimmy said that he found out about the new project, Steve sarcastically quipped:

"I don't know if you know this: it's gonna be all the original cast. I'm in it. No, no, no, no, no."

Previously on May 13, 2024, Steve Carell spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the spinoff series, following the release announcement. He said:

"I will be watching but I will not be showing up. It’s just a new thing and there’s really no reason for my character to show up in something like that. But I’m excited about it, it sounds like a great concept. I love the idea — I guess it’s set in a failing newspaper company."

During the recent interview with Jimmy Fallon, Steve Carell spoke about his former co-star Gleeson, who had asked him if it was okay to work in the spinoff. To which the comedian replied, "Of course."

Carell did not share more details about their conversation, but he reflected positively on the sitcom. The new series is yet to be named and will star The White Lotus's Sabrina Impacciatore alongside Gleeson.

The official plot of the show reads on Peacock:

“The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.”

Main cast of the US version of The Office sitcom included Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Leslie David Baker, Brian Baumgartner, Angela Kinsey, Kate Flannery, and Phyllis Smith. Actor John Krasinski also shared his thoughts on the new spinoff. On May 13, 2024, he told People magazine during the IF movie's premiere:

"I know nothing about it other than I think it's taking place in a newspaper, a local newspaper, and that Domhnall Gleeson, who I am working with right now, who’s the sweetest most talented guy, he’s going to crush… whatever it is… he’s going to crush it."

The production of the series will begin in July 2024 and will be available on Peacock.
