Comedian Dana Carvey surprised the audience with an Elon Musk impression during last week's episode of Saturday Night Live on November 9, 2024. The episode kicked off with a skit dedicated to Donald Trump's victory in the 2024 U.S. elections.

Carvey donned a "dark MAGA" hat (black colored hat) and excitedly exclaimed:

"I run the country now."

As clips from the cold open went viral, internet users were quick to react. One user noted that the joke was in bad humor as it seemingly made fun of Musk's neurodivergence.

However, many also praised Carvey's performance and the sketch. Here are some comments seen under the show's post on X:

"Dana Carvey as Elon was the joy I needed this week. Excellent cold open, SNL," one wrote.
"Dana Carvey pulls off Elon better than Elon does," another remarked.
"disrespecting dana carvey by having him play elon how dare," a person stated.

Others criticized the impression, calling it "forced" and "cringe."

"His Biden impression had me rolling, so funny. This felt too forced. Thumbs down. No problem Mister Carvey, you are still a hilarious dude," one remarked.
"Dana Carvey with an absolutely cringe attempt at an Elon Musk," a user commented.
"Like watching a great boxer get old and humiliated in the ring," another added.

Elon Musk claimed he was the first person with Asperger's syndrome to host SNL in May 2021

Saturday's episode featured Bill Burr as the guest host and MK. Gee as the guest musician. The cold open began with the cast standing in what looked like the Oval Office and addressing Donald Trump as winning the presidential race. One cast member even said the result was "shocking and horrifying" for some.

The cast members, Kenan Thompson, Ego Nwodim, Heidi Gardner, and Bowen Yang, explained that the Republican ticket won despite the various accusations against him, including trying to overturn the 2020 elections.

They added that speaking out against the president-elect could mean retribution. Hence they humorously declared their allegiance to him.

"That is why we at SNL would like to say to Donald Trump... We've been with you all along," Thompson stated.

Colin Jost quipped:

"Mr. Trump your honor we know that you say things that are controversial sometimes, but really you're just speaking the truth. I hate how the lame-stream media, Michael J. (Fox; a pun on Fox News) tries to spin it to make you look foolish."

At one point in the sketch, the crew introduces their newest members as "hot jacked" Donald Trump (played by James Austin Johnson) and Dana Carvey's Elon Musk. Thompson introduces Musk, saying:

"Worst case scenario, meaning scenario, if our plant falls apart we can all go to Mars with the other man we love and trust-Elon Musk."

Carey comes on stage cheering and jumping, showing his "dark MAGA" hat. The comedian's Musk tells the audience that "America (was) going to be like one of (his) rockets," before adding that "it could blow up" and everyone would die. He ends shouting:

"See you in the White House... U.S.A.... U.S.A...."

Elon Musk once revealed he had Asperger's syndrome on SNL during a 2021 episode. He told the audience he was making history by being the first person with the syndrome to host the show.

Elon Musk or Donald Trump have not publicly reacted to the news.
