Courteney Cox recently looked back on her "incredible" TV sitcom Friends' lasting legacy. The show, which first aired on September 22, 1994, celebrated its 30th anniversary.

Cox spoke with People about the show's milestone at the Rock4EV event in Malibu, California on Saturday, September 21. She said:

"That show is incredible. Every joke holds up, all the characters are just so amazing, and we [had] the best writers in the world."

The actress added that she feels "lucky" that the long-running show "continues on through all generations." She added that it makes her feel "very fortunate."

For the unversed, Courteney Cox is one of the titular "friends" in the sitcom—Monica Geller. It also stars Jennifer Aniston as Rachel Green, the late Matthew Perry as Chandler Bing, and Lisa Kudrow as Phoebe Buffay. Matt LeBlanc as Joey Tribbiani and David Schwimmer as Ross Geller complete the gang.

Courteney Cox said her Friends character is "alive and well"

Courteney Cox looked back on the sitcom's legacy in the same interview, saying that it's "just insane" for her because she feels like time flies so fast that she doesn't even realize it.

It's been 20 years since fans saw the last of Friends in its 2004 finale, but their characters live on.

She talked about Monica's character living on in pop culture up to this day, and the Friends actress lightheartedly said:

"Monica is alive and well. Are you kidding?"

It's also because of Friends' lasting legacy that Courteney Cox thinks that it would be difficult to recreate the original magic that the show possesses. She addressed the rumors about a reboot revolving around the original cast's kids that creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane pitched.

Kauffman told The Today Show on September 20 about receiving emails from fans pitching the idea of the next generation of Gellers, Bings, and Buffy's doing a Friends show.

However, Cox told the magazine that she "can't imagine" that project ever happening. She added:

"It's hard to try to redo anything. Anything with 're' in front of it with this group—I think it's so special."

Courteney Cox also admitted in the interview that it's been a "little while" since she has seen an episode of Friends. However, the actress said that whenever she comes across an episode from the sitcom, she "can't help but [watch]."

Cox recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Friends finale. The finale aired on May 6, 2024. In a May 7 Instagram reel featuring the show's final scene, where the six friends wanted to go out for coffee, she wrote that she is "forever grateful."

She also wondered how they "were able to act through all the tears," referring to taping the last scene for the sitcom.
