The Boys has consistently pushed the boundaries of television since its debut on Prime Video, with each season delivering more shocking and outrageous moments. One particularly memorable scene from season 3’s Herogasm episode involved The Deep, portrayed by Chace Crawford, engaging in an intimate act with an octopus.

Recently, Crawford revealed the anxiety he experienced leading up to the filming of this unusual scene. In an interview with Rolling Stone, published on July 7, 2024, Crawford shared his apprehensions and the measures taken to ensure his comfort during the shoot. He said,

"I was in total denial about it."

He further continued:

"So I was worried about the scene. I’m like, How are we gonna do this? What are the angles gonna be? How naked do I have to be? He changed one shot for me. And it was great."

Why did Chace Crawford face a near-panic attack during octopus scene shoot in The Boys?

Chace Crawford expressed significant anxiety about filming the octopus scene. As the shoot day approached, Crawford became increasingly worried about how the scene would be executed and received by viewers. The day before the filming, he reached out to Eric Kripke, the showrunner, to discuss his concerns.

He told Rolling Stones,

"And then it got 24 hours out from the first day I had to shoot it and I almost had a panic attack. I called Kripke — he’s so great. He’s got a million things going on but his door’s always open."

Kripke, understanding Chace Crawford’s apprehensions, made some adjustments to help alleviate the actor’s anxiety. Despite these changes, Chace Crawford still had to endure the peculiar experience of "picking up the octopus and getting a wet octopus in the bed" during the scene. He added that "the act was so funny and weird."

The production team treated the shoot with the utmost sensitivity, ensuring a closed set to maintain Crawford’s comfort. However, the long wait before the scene was released added to his anxiety about the audience's reaction.

Who does Chace Crawford play on The Boys?

Chace Crawford stars as Kevin Moskowitz, also known as The Deep, in The Boys. He is one of the superheroes promoted by Vought International.

Unlike his comic book counterpart, the TV series portrays him as a white man with fish attributes who can communicate and feel the pain of oceanic creatures. This power makes him very sad because he can hear when humans are eating sea animals.

The Deep’s character arc in The Boys combines both comedy and horror elements. Being initially portrayed as a s**ual predator using his position to victimize others, he receives punishment for all his crimes, including public shaming or being reassigned to a less popular job.

So over time, he tries to rebuild his reputation and get back into The Seven, only to face different weird situations like this famous octopus scene.

What is The Boys about?

The Boys is an American satirical superhero television series developed by Eric Kripke for Amazon Prime Video and is based on the comic book of the same name, which is written by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.

The show follows a group of vigilantes known as The Boys as they battle superpowered individuals, or Supes, who misuse their abilities for personal gain while maintaining a facade of heroism under the management of Vought International.

The series is a dark and bloody interpretation of the superhero genre, which explores the themes of power, corruption, and the consequences of uncontrolled authority. The cast features Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hughie Campbell, Antony Starr as Homelander, Erin Moriarty as Starlight, and more.

Initially thought of as a film trilogy, it eventually became a TV show, offering more depth in character growth.
