Erin Moriarty got candid about receiving hate as a public figure and shared how she was able to overcome the negativity. During the 2024 Comic-Con on Friday, July 26, in San Diego, The Boys actress explained how she chooses to respond to online haters—compassion and not more negativity. The actress said:
"Honestly, I feel like it can make you susceptible and vulnerable to certain things, but it can also kind of make you more compassionate and make you look at others in a way that ironically, or maybe counterintuitive, ultimately exudes more love than it exudes negativity or pessimism."
The actress explained that looking at other people and thinking about the fact that every person is going through their own battle "every single day" made her more compassionate towards others and not speak harsh words to them. Moriarty said in the interview, looking at things that way has worked for her "so far."
Erin Moriarty, who has been fielding online hate after she's become a subject of plastic surgery comments, said that she doesn't want to give any more time to the haters, adding:
"I don't care to say anything or to really shine any more light onto those people."
Instead, the actress, who plays Starlight in The Boys, wants to focus her attention and energy on things that "feed the small pot of positivity" in the world.
Erin Moriarty previously addressed bullying before quitting social media
While Erin Moriarty has faced a bit of criticism on social media over the years, it was the "bullying" and "harassment" that pushed The Boys star to deactivate her social media account.
In January this year, she addressed Megyn Kelly's comments and allegations during that January 17 episode of The Megyn Kelly Show that she's gone under the knife to "completely change her face." In her last Instagram post before signing off, Moriarty called Kelly's comments a "form of harassment," and that she was horrified by it, adding:
"There is no excuse for these horrific allegations, the verbal abuse that I have had to delete, and genuinely false information that is being used to perpetuate a message that is exhibitionist feminism."
She said, "Shame on you Megyn Kelly," in the post, slamming the media personality for implying that the actress' photo is "reflective of women being in a worse place." At one point, Erin Moriarty implied that Kelly should resign and women would be in a much better place for it.
Moriarty has also spoken about the "dehumanizing" hatred and the "misogynistic trolling" she received after she joined The Boys. She defended herself and her character, saying that she's put her "blood, sweat, and tears" into playing her role in the show over and over again and that she's grown "mentally and physically" with the character.
