Actress Nancy Cartwright recently revealed in a TikTok video that popstar Sabrina Carpenter is her niece amid rumors of a family link. Cartwright is best known for lending her voice to Bart Simpson from the popular sitcom The Simpsons.
In the July 9 video, a fan asked Cartwright if she's related to Sabrina Carpenter. The voice actress confirmed her connection, calling the singer "pretty amazing."
“Yeah! Absolutely! Isn’t that amazing? Maybe you’ve known me for a little while, doing this little 10-year-old boy for 35 some years — and some of you guys for way less than that — and find out that I’m related to this superstar. She’s pretty amazing," she said.
In her TikTok video caption, the actress added:
“The rumors are true! Sabrina Carpenter is my niece! 🥰,”
Sabrina Carpenter recently made headlines with her two latest singles, Please Please Please and Espresso, both of which topped the US Billboard Global 200 and went viral on the internet.
Meanwhile, her aunt Nancy Cartwright is known for lending her voice to multiple iconic characters on television, including Gloria in Richie Rich, Daffney Gillfin in Snorks, Rufus in Kim Possible, Mindy in Animaniacs, the Robots in Crashbox, and Margo Sherman in The Critic.
For her portrayal of Bart Simpsons in The Simpsons, Cartwright won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance. She also voiced other characters in The Simpsons, such as Maggie, Todd Flanders, and Ralph Wiggum.
Sabrina Carpenter began her career by starring in a Disney series
Much like her aunt, Nancy Cartwright, Sabrina Carpenter also has a special link to the world of television. The pop star first came to the limelight by starring in the Disney series Girl Meets World between 2014 and 2017. She signed a contract with the Disney-owned company Hollywood Records to release her debut single, Can't Blame A Girl for Trying, in 2014.
Carpenter did not find immediate success in the music industry, as her first four studio albums - Eyes Wide Open (2015), Evolution (2016), Singular Act I (2018), and Singular Act II (2019), did not bring enough success and recognition. However, some of her singles, like Alien and Sue Me, topped the charts in the United States.
In 2021, Sabrina Carpenter left Hollywood Records and signed with Island Records. Her single, Skin, marked her first entry into the US Billboard Hot 100. The pop star released her fifth studio album, Emails I Can't Send, in 2022, marking her debut in the US Billboard 200 chart. Two of her singles, Nonsense and Feather, did exceptionally well at this time, bringing her more prominence.
Sabrina is set to release her sixth studio album, Short n Sweet, in 2024. The release of the album is preceded by two singles, Please Please Please and Espresso. Please Please Please became Carpenter's first single to hit No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 while she performed Espresso at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival this year.
In 2024, Carpenter opened for popstar Taylor Swift during her Eras Tour in South America, Singapore, and Australia legs. Speaking to Billboard about her experience of opening for Swift, she said:
“I get to perform a set that I’m super comfortable with, and then I get to watch one of the greatest performers every night. It almost feels like a Broadway show because everything is so synchronized, but at the same time feels so in the moment."
Carpenter also mentioned that watching Taylor Swift perform every night makes her want to tour the world again.
"That’s an art. It’s really hard to teach. It’s really hard to learn. And I feel so lucky that I get to watch Taylor perform every time. It makes me want to tour the world again, which is a good feeling,” she said.
While pursuing her music career, Sabrina Carpenter did not give up on her roots in acting and films. The singer starred in multiple films over the years, including Adventures in Babysitting, The Hate U Give, Clouds, and Emergency. She also played the leading role in the Broadway musical Mean Girls.
