Following the result of the 2024 election, in his monologue on Friday night, November 8, comedian Bill Maher criticized the Democratic Party on his HBO show Real Time. He further alleged that the party is full of "brats and snobs" who need to "look in the mirror" after losing to Donald Trump. He said:
“My message to the losers: Losers look in the mirror! For months, Democrats have been saying how is this even close? And they're right, it wasn't [...] That’s what I hate about the left. You’re brats, and you’re snobs, and people don’t like that….”
Meanwhile, once the video went public, netizens took to the comment section of X user @WillKingston to express their opinion on Maher’s speech. The user referred to Jimmy Kimmel’s November 6 monologue, when he seemingly choked while speaking about election results. They claimed that Bill's show was the only one “left with any credibility.”
“Compare this monologue to the dishonest, out-of-touch, teary sermons from Kimmel, Colbert et. al. Bill Maher is the only talk show left with any credibility,” one person commented.
Others shared a similar sentiment and claimed that he doesn't care about being booed or about ratings. One even said that his “humor” is good and he is an “old-school liberal.”
“You cannot accuse him of mugging for an audience. He’s not afraid to be booed, and he does not care about ratings,” wrote one user.
“Good to see good humor has not been completely driven out,” another person said.
“He is a true old school liberal... His takes are sometimes a little off but in general he is good at hitting the nail on the head,” another netizen wrote.
Others also praised him for his speech. One even said that he has “guts” and he is the “voice of sanity.”
“I'm a Trump voter, and this was hilarious....,” wrote one X user.
“Bill Maher is a voice of sanity. He gets it,” another person said.
“Because he's the only one with any guts,” one netizen commented.
Bill Maher slammed the Democratic Party after the 2024 Election result
Despite his earlier predictions that Kamala Harris would win this year's election, Bill Maher gave his first monologue since election day on Friday. Bill Maher later admitted that he "did not vote for the winner" but accepted the outcome of the election.
He went on to say that he had lost a lot of supporters over the years because he claimed that the country has had enough woke agendas and people without common sense.
Talking about Harris' presence on Saturday Night Live on November 4, he said:
“I saw Kamala was on Saturday Night Live… I’m sure every single member of the Saturday Night Live cast was a Harris supporter, but… What if one of those cast members was for Trump? Would they have felt comfortable saying so? I really don’t think so… That’s not a good place for us to be.”
He continued:
“I remember when Elon Musk hosted. And this is well before he was a Trumper… He was just the richest man in the world. And a number of the cast members on Saturday Night Live, like, they didn’t want to deal with him.”
Bill Maher further added:
“And I was thinking, really, you have Elon Musk on your show for a week. You could talk to one of the most interesting, brilliant people the world has ever produced… But no, you don’t want to even deal with him.”
Then, on Election Night, Maher paused to talk about Trump's victory. He further promised that "we're still gonna have fun" and started the show with a set of monologues and jokes.
On the other hand, Trump is supposed to have his inauguration ceremony and take over office on January 20, 2025.
