During Whoopi Goldberg's 69th birthday celebration on the November 13 episode of The View, she claimed that a bakery had refused to fulfill her dessert order, adding that it could be due to her political beliefs. Sharing a sentimental moment, Goldberg introduced Charlotte Russe cakes, a favorite of her late mother.

The EGOT winner then told her co-hosts and the live audience,

"Charlotte Russe has no political leanings, and the place that made these refused to make them for me. They said that their ovens had gone down, all kinds of stuff, but folks went and got them anyway, which is why I'm not telling you who made them."

Goldberg stated that the refusal may have been politically motivated. "Perhaps they did not like my politics," she claimed. However, she asked the audience to focus on the celebration instead.

"This is my mother's celebration. Pick these up and celebrate with me and my mom," she added.

Despite Whoopi Goldberg withholding the bakery's name, Entertainment Weekly (EW) reported on the same day that Holtermann's Bakery in Staten Island was the business in question.

The View, co-hosted by Whoopi Goldberg, is a popular daytime talk show known for its discussions on current events, politics, and pop culture. Goldberg, a longtime co-host, is an actress, comedian, and political commentator.

Whoopi Goldberg's dessert order faced delays due to equipment issues, says bakery owner

Jill Holtermann, the bakery's owner, denied Goldberg's claims, claiming equipment issues were the reason for the initial refusal. Speaking to EW, Holtermann stated that Goldberg's order was placed two weeks prior, but the bakery was facing boiler malfunctions, making it difficult to commit to large orders.

"They'd asked us, and we were having trouble with our boilers," Holtermann said.

The owner also claimed that Whoopi Goldberg had ordered Charlotte Russe treats for both a November 6 talk show appearance and The View's November 13 broadcast. Holtermann added that the building was from 1930, and she couldn't go through with the order due to "so many things going on" with the boiler.

"I didn't want to make a commitment that I can't carry through," she stated.

Holtermann added that an unidentified woman picked up approximately 50 Charlotte Russe desserts on the morning of Whoopi Goldberg's birthday episode. The bakery had reportedly managed to fulfill this order despite ongoing boiler issues.

The bakery owner further emphasized that she was unaware whether or not the woman was connected to Goldberg or The View. Holtermann firmly rejected any notion that political affiliations influenced her decision.

"It was not because of political affiliations," she stated.

In the episode, Whoopi Goldberg described Charlotte Russe as a sponge cake topped with whipped cream and a cherry, a nostalgic dessert that was cherished by her mother. Goldberg's political views, including her support for Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, have occasionally made headlines.

However, the host stated she did not wish to dwell on the bakery incident, asking the audience to redirect attention to her mother's celebration. Meanwhile, Goldberg has not publicly responded to Holtermann's claims.

As of now, Goldberg continues her role on The View, while Holtermann's Bakery, a 145-year-old establishment, remains a staple in Staten Island's culinary scene.
