"There was no bottle, it was a punch in self defense"— Antony Starr's girlfriend defends him over assault case

Antony Starr, best known for playing the infamous Homelander in The Boys, has been the subject of some recent online accusations, with his girlfriend coming to his defense by commenting on an Instagram post on July 15, 2024.

This happened after the Instagram account, @hourly_facts reshared a post that reported Starr's widely reported incident that happened in Alicante, Spain.

As per the viral allegations, Starr is rumored to have attacked a man in March 2022 while filming in Alicante, Spain. Chef Bathuel Araujo, a 21-year-old Venezuelan cook, told police that Starr had punched him and then struck him with a glass bottle, cutting open an area near the chef's left eyebrow, which required four stitches.

Following these rumors and allegations, Antony Starr’s girlfriend, Sandra Vergara, who is also the sister of actress Sofía Vergara, took to Instagram, under the comment section of the @hourly_facts to clarify that:

“He was not found guilty and the “chef” and his friends started the fight by hitting him first. Secondly there was no bottle, it was a punch in self defense.”

Actor Antony Starr's girlfriend recently defended him from the online allegations that he is currently facing. This started after the Instagram account, @hourly_facts reported that Starr was arrested in an assault case that happened on March 22 in Alicante, Spain.

The Boys actor allegedly assaulted a chef at an Alicante tavern in March 2022, and as a result, was sentenced to 12 months of suspended jail. While in Alicante, Starr was filming an action thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal for director Guy Ritchie.

He was reportedly arrested after getting into the bar brawl around 2 in the morning on March 2, 2022. He was locked up for the night. Deadline reported on March 4, 2022, that police were reportedly informed by the Chef and he reportedly said that Starr was "very drunk" and "bumping and pushing" people.

He also said to the local media that Starr allegedly became irrationally angry when a friend he was with asked the actor's friend to calm him down because the actor was reportedly being irritating.

According to the chef, Starr, 46, said-

“You don’t know who you’ve messed with, you don’t know who I am and what you’ve done.”

After that, Antony Starr allegedly repeatedly hit Araujo and smashed a glass in his face, cutting him above the eye, which eventually needed four stitches.

It was reported that a trial took place on March 3, Thursday. After the altercation, Starr was given a 12-month suspended prison sentence, with the condition that he reimburse the victim €5,000 within 72 hours.

Comic Book reported in an article on June 4, 2022, that a National Police of Spain representative said:

“I can confirm a 46-year-old man was arrested following an incident at a pub in Alicante around 2.30am on March 2. He was held on suspicion of wounding."

Two years later, the incident surfaced online. Following that, Sandra Vergara, Starr's girlfriend, defended him, explaining that he was not found guilty.

She went on to say that there was no bottle, that the "chef" and his companions had assaulted him first to start the brawl, and it Starr's reaction had just been an act of self-defense.


Antony Starr has not commented at the time of this writing.
