TJ Holmes “didn’t mean to fall in love” with former GMA 3 co-host Amy Robach when they were first seeing each other.
After almost two years since they were photographed together in New York in 2022, the duo recently lifted the lid on their infamous get-together. In the June 10 episode of their Amy and TJ podcast, Holmes discussed the beginning of their relationship.
Recalling that they “didn’t expect” to fall for each other, Holmes said:
“Let me make this as transparent as we can. We didn’t mean to fall in love. We didn’t expect to fall in love. We didn’t even realize we were falling in love.”
Holmes was admittedly conflicted about whether or not to get serious with Robach in the beginning. He further stated:
“Given all that was on the line, you could even argue, we didn’t want to fall in love, which seems like an odd thing to say about the woman you’re sitting on stage with that you claim to be in love with.”

Addressing the same, Holmes told Robach in the podcast:
“I don’t want to fall in love with you. That’s a weird thing to think. But we didn’t. It wasn’t what we were planning for, but it happened. It did.”
At the time when the photographs of the two displaying PDAs were leaked, Amy Robach was married to Andrew Shue and TJ Holmes to Marilee Fiebig.
TJ Holmes shares the reason why he decided “to go for it” with Amy Robach despite initial misgiving
While TJ Holmes was initially conflicted about falling in love with his former GMA 3: What You Need to Know co-host, he later decided to just “go for it.” He said—
“When it’s right there in front of you, life is too short, and you have to go for it.”
However, Holmes clarified that it wasn’t an “everybody else be damned” decision for them. Instead, it was an “informed decision,” despite admittedly saying that the couple had “made missteps” in how they handled things. TJ Holmes clarified—
“We’re not at all endorsing anybody going for it at all costs…and everybody else be damned. That’s not what we’re saying, and that is not what we did.”

Holmes added—
“We absolutely made missteps along the way. But, there are reasons and experiences we’ve had in our lives that informed the decision we made, which is a very deliberate one, to be together. And a part of that is life is short, and you gotta go for it.”
Amy Robach has since separated from her former husband, Andrew Shue. TJ Holmes had finalized his divorce in 2023. In the previous June 7 episode of their podcast, Holmes and Robach brought in Robach's parents to talk about the media frenzy following the outing of their relationship.
