Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft season 2 - Everything we know so far

Lara Croft's adventures aren't over yet as Netflix has renewed Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft for another season. The show, which is based on the Tomb Raider game series created by Crystal Dynamics, will be returning for another season on the streaming service. The announcement was recently made by Netflix in a press release they posted online.

Tasha Huo will return as the showrunner for Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft season 2. In an interview with Tudum (Netflix), the showrunner spoke about how season 1 saw Lara work as a solo adventurer dealing with her grief and isolation, but season 2 of the series will see her trying to work in a group dynamic.

“So Season 1, thematically, is about Lara embracing how her dad dealt with grief, which was isolating. When we meet Lara, she’s very isolated …" she shared.

"As we get into Season 2, we’re trying to build Lara’s team over the course of the show, so she goes from isolated hero, who only wants to do things on her own — a lone wolf — to realizing, ‘Actually, I have this really cool team behind me,’" she continued.

Alongside that, Huo also teased that season 2 of the series may include some sharks as well. Currently, no release date for Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft season 2 has been revealed yet. But Hayley Atwell will return to voice the character in the show again.

What is Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft season 2 about?

As per Netflix, while season 1 of the show was about the origins of Lara Croft, season 2 will explore her journey into becoming the icon that fans know and love from video games. Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft season 2 will focus on Lara Croft stumbling upon the trail of the African Orisha Masks and teaming up with her friend Sam to discover more about them.

Season 2 of the Hayley Atwell-starrer also promises a globe-trotting adventure featuring many different locations. She will also discover the divine secrets of the masks, and the logline for the season also hints at a billionaire villain who wants to have the mask all to herself.

As per Netflix, the official synopsis for season 2 reads:

"When adventurer Lara Croft discovers a trail of stolen African Orisha masks, she joins forces with her best friend Sam to retrieve the precious artifacts."

"Lara’s thrilling new adventure takes her around the globe as she delves deeper into the hidden secrets of Orisha history, dodges the machinations of a dangerous and enigmatic billionaire who wants the masks for herself, while discovering these relics contain dark secrets and a power that defies logic. Power that may, in fact, be divine," it continues.

Aside from Hayley Atwell, the series also stars Allen Maldonado, Earl Baylon, Richard Armitage, Zoe Boyle, Roxana Ortega, Nolan North, and more. Karen Fukuhara will also return as Sam for season 2 of Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.
