Actress Tori Spelling, one of the main characters of the TV show Beverly Hills, 90210 has recently spoken about the demise of her colleague Shannen Doherty. In the latest episode of her 90210MG podcast with her fellow Beverly Hills, 90210 cast member Jennie Garth, Spelling explained why their last exchange mattered.

The episode, which was titled ‘Remembering Shannen Doherty,’ had Spelling reveal their conversation as a ‘second shot’. Spelling played Donna Martin alongside Doherty’s Brenda Walsh in the ’90s teen drama, discussed Doherty’s impact on Tuesday’s, July 23 episode of the podcast.

Shannen Doherty died on July 13 at the age of 53 due to breast cancer, which the actress fought for almost 10 years. Although Spelling did not disclose much about their last conversation, she was relieved by the feeling of closure the conversation gave her. Spelling remarked,

"I've had a lot of death in my life, and I don't believe in regrets, but I have a lot of regrets that I didn't have that time to have a second chance to get past stuff from the past and look at all the good things and really talk it out and have that last conversation."

Spelling also noted:

"I feel like she and I had that, and I'm super grateful for that."

Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth reflect on Shannen Doherty's impact and legacy

Spelling explained about Doherty's impact on her fans. Stating she was not just their childhood friend whom they had grown up watching, but she was someone so strong, such a fighter, and going through so much that on some level they could relate to her. She was that person for them, that mentor to look up to, to keep going.

Jennie Garth also shared her thoughts on Doherty’s influence. She said:

"I feel like I got so much strength from just knowing her as a young girl, growing up beside her for the years that I did. And I learned a lot, about how to stand up for myself, how to fight for things that I believed in."

Tori Spelling admitted she was "not doing well" in the wake of Doherty’s death. She confessed that she honestly didn't want to do the podcast episode and didn't feel emotionally ready. She acknowledged that many people were speaking out and giving lovely tributes in Doherty's memory, but she wanted to do this episode for the fans, not for herself.

Tori Spelling further revealed that the Charmed star’s resilience throughout her cancer battle made her passing difficult to process. Spelling said that it was just that belief that Doherty fought so hard and was such a warrior.

It was stated that Doherty had shown her entire life and career that she could get past anything. According to Tori Spelling, Doherty made one believe that she was the one who would make it because she was so hopeful.

In addition to her final conversation with Doherty, Spelling also remembered moments on set with Doherty when the cameras weren't on them. She recalled that the very first scene Jenn, Shannen and she had together at Mary Ann Moore's party. It was mentioned that it was a night scene at that house.

Tori Spelling said that it "stuck out to her" and that even though that wasn't their first scene, it was the first time she remembered the 3 of them really bonding and thinking that they were all going to be friends. She felt that it was more than just being on camera and was hopeful to fit in with them, noting that they were both so accepting of her. Tori Spelling continued:

"I remember that night us just laughing. We filmed all night till the sun came up, which was a lot for teenagers."

Garth added:

"It was exciting. It was like a party."

In 1990, Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling became known for portraying the characters of Kelly Taylor and Donna Martin in the show known as Beverly Hills, 90210. Though it had low ratings at first, the show rose to become one of the defining TV series of the 90s and made the cast of the show overnight stars.
