After major development took place in Matthew Perry’s death case, the F.R.I.E.N.D.S alum’s stepfather finally spoke up and thanked the authorities for the arrests. In a statement given to Entertainment Weekly, Keith Morrison said:
"We were and still are heartbroken by Matthew's death, but it has helped to know law enforcement has taken his case very seriously. We look forward to justice taking its course and we're grateful for the exceptional work of the multiple agencies whose agents investigated Matthew's death. We're hoping unscrupulous suppliers of dangerous drugs will get the message."
The statement came in after the Los Angeles Police Department charged five people for supplying ketamine, an anti-depressant to Matthew Perry, because of the overdose of which his death took place in October 2023.
The police have now charged Kenneth Iwamasa, Perry’s assistant, two doctors, Salvador Plasencia and Mark Chavez, along with Erik Fleming, who helped in procuring the drugs, and Jasveen Sangha, who is also called the “Ketamine Queen.”
Matthew Perry died at 54, on October 28, 2023. His assistant discovered the body in his home’s jacuzzi. The cause of his death was stated as drowning, however, the investigators later found out in December that he had consumed an excess amount of ketamine, due to which he passed away.
Iwamasa and Fleming have pleaded guilty to Matthew Perry’s case: More details explored
As the Los Angeles Police Department charged five people, they stated how the doctors took advantage of Perry’s addiction to make monetary gains. U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada addressed the same and stated:
"These defendants took advantage of Mr. Perry’s addiction issues to enrich themselves.”
While Erik Fleming and Kenneth Iwamasa have pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy and have admitted to having supplied Perry the ketamine, which caused his death, the other three have not yet admitted the same.
However, speaking of Perry’s stepfather Morrison, this is not the first time that he has spoken up on the issue, as he stated in October 2024, how it has been tough for the family. Speaking to Hoda Kotb on Making Space, Morrison had said:
“As other people have told me hundreds of times, it doesn't go away. It’s with you every day. It’s with you all the time, and there’s some new aspect of it that assaults your brain. It’s not easy. Especially for his mom. Toward the end of his life, they were closer than I've seen them for decades.”
Keith Morrison, Matthew Perry’s stepfather, is a Canadian journalist who has been a correspondent with Dateline NBC for many years. Morrison married Matthew’s mother, Suzanne in 1981, when the actor was 12 years old.
Social media users are also reacting to the arrests, people from the industry and Matthew Perry’s colleagues are also hoping for strict action to be taken by the court in the case.
