American standup comedian and actor Matt Rife postponed multiple shows at the Indiana University Auditorium on May 29 following a medical emergency. The former Wild ‘n Out star took to his Instagram Stories to elaborate on the situation.
"I'm so f*cking sorry, but due to a last minute medical emergency, I have to reschedule our shows tonight (again). I've been doing 40+ shows a month for a year and [a] half and never had to do something like this. I’m so, so sorry. I hope you understand, and I love you so much," Rife wrote.
Later, he also posted the same message on X.
According to an email sent to the showgoers by Chicago Theater and the Ryman Auditorium, Matt Rife suffered “extreme exhaustion symptoms and nearly fainted heading to the venue,” which led to the postponement.
Matt Rife postponed his Indiana show two times in a row
Rife is currently performing on his ProbleMATTic World Tour which began in July 2023 and is spread across North America, Europe, and Australia. As part of the tour, he was supposed to take the stage at the IU Auditorium in Bloomington, Indiana on Wednesday night.
However, he suffered “extreme exhaustion” and almost lost consciousness on his way to the venue, following which his show got postponed. He later apologized to his fans on social media, citing a “medical emergency.”
Currently, Matt Rife has been advised by his medical team to take a break for a fortnight from his tour and focus on his recovery. Ticket holders who received an email are expected to receive a full refund, the venue announced on Instagram. The post with the picture of the comedian contained the caption:
“MATT RIFE CANCELLED: Tonight's Matt Rife shows (including the 10 p.m. performance) have been canceled due to an unexpected medical emergency. Your original method of payment will be refunded in full and will be reflected within 30 days.”
It also asked people to get in touch with them over the phone, emails, or website in case of any further queries.
Notably, this is not the first time the Natural Selection comic has postponed the show in Indiana. Originally, he was supposed to take the stage at the same venue on February 14, but rescheduled it last minute citing “an unforeseen conflict” in his schedule.
The 28-year-old Rife was also meant to perform at The Chicago Theater for eight sold-out comedy shows between May 30 to June 2 and in Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee from June 6 to 9. However, due to his health-induced hiatus for two weeks, he will not be able to perform in those places as well, as per his official website.
The Chicago shows will happen on December 26 and 30 at the end of the tour. The new dates for the Nashville shows currently remain unannounced. However, upon recovery, the Ohio native is expected to resume his performance on June 12 at the Orpheum Theater in Memphis before setting out for Europe.
Matt’s medical history remains undisclosed. However, during his 2021 comedy special Only Fans, he shared that he previously suffered from clinical depression and anxiety disorder.
