Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy faced public criticism for a controversial statement she made during an interview last month. Her remarks were related to the latest Star Wars installment, The Acolyte, which received a mixed reaction from the audience.

The series was criticized by a few people for featuring too many female characters, prompting Kennedy to respond during an interview with The New York Times on May 29, 2024, stating that it is important to represent everyone in storytelling.

Kathleen Kennedy even addressed how it is hard for anyone to keep these huge franchises running by keeping in mind the expectations of the public. She then referred to the creator of The Acolyte, Leslye Headland, and said:

"I think Lesyle has struggled a little bit with it. I think a lot of women who step into 'Star Wars' struggle with this a bit more. Because of the fan base being so male dominated, they sometimes get attacked in ways that can be quite personal."

However, Kathleen Kennedy's words were not well received by people, and they shared their response on X. One of them also called her a "male hater," saying that she should praise those who are responsible for "putting her in the position she is in today." Another user demanded to fire her from Lucasfilm, saying that she has "something against men."

The Acolyte is the first series in the Star Wars franchise created by a woman. While audiences felt that the entire show was dominated by female characters, the critical response was better, with a score of 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. Notably, the show's trailer received more than 50 million views in a day.

Kathleen Kennedy revealed her plans to bring back Daisy Ridley at an event in 2023: New films and other details

While her recent comment about the male fanbase led to a lot of criticism, the Amblin Entertainment co-founder already announced the return of Daisy Ridley in a new project of the Star Wars franchise. The news was unveiled last year during the Star Wars celebration in London.

The film, featuring Daisy Ridley, would be helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and is set 15 years after the end of The Rise of Skywalker. Daisy also expressed her excitement at the time and said:

"I am so so thrilled to be at the celebrations with you all in London. Thank you Sharmeen for having me back, I'm very thrilled to be continuing this journey."

Additionally, Kathleen Kennedy confirmed two more Star Wars films with Dave Filoni and James Mangold as directors. Talking about Ridley's project, Kennedy said that they had been working on the script for a long time and added:

"So we've just got to a point now where we've got a wonderful writer in Steven Knight, he's come on board and we're going to see a script probably in the next month and a half that we've been working on for quite a while."

While Kathleen Kennedy did not confirm a release date, she stated that the basic intention was to continue the story after The Rise of Skywalker, which was the last film of the franchise to come out on the big screen.
