New details have emerged about Matthew Perry in the ongoing investigation surrounding his death. The actor's last words have been revealed in court documents after five arrests were made on August 15, 2024.
Perry was found drowned in his jacuzzi at his Los Angeles home on October 28, 2023. The courts have now revealed that his last conversation was with his assistant, who administered a dose of the drug ketamine to him. Perry's last words were "shoot me up with a big one", referring to the drug dose.
The actor has been known to struggle with addiction since his time on the sets of the sitcom F.R.I.E.N.D.S. The authorities have arrested five people who prescribed, administered, and possibly peddled the drug to Perry, including his assistant Kenneth Iwamasa.
Update on the Matthew Perry case
The Los Angeles police department opened an investigation in May 2024 to further probe into the cause behind Matthew Perry's demise. The actor was found with high levels of the drug ketamine in his system at the time of his death.
While Perry was under prescribed ketamine therapy to combat his anxiety, the fatal levels of an overdose was what caused the actor's unconsciousness in his jacuzzi.
The authorities have made five arrests in the case, most prominently Perry's live-in assistant Kenneth Iwamasa. Iwamasa was the one who gave Perry the fatal ketamine dose when the actor instructed him to. Additionally, Perry's doctors, Dr Mark Chavez and Dr Salvador Plasencia, have been arrested for prescribing him the drug.
The investigation is also an attempt to attack the ketamine drug ring in Los Angeles, In this regard, the 'Ketamine Queen' Jasveen Sangha and a director named Erik Fleming have also been apprehended, as per a report from USA Today.
Matthew Perry's struggle with addiction
Matthew Perry openly struggled with addiction to alcohol and drugs since before his time on the popular sitcom F.R.I.E.N.D.S. The actor mentioned having hangover issues and sweating profusely on set. Later, he even admitted to having no memory of around three years of filming due to substance abuse disorder.
He stated in his memoir that he had been addicted to Vicodin and alcohol, which resulted in severe hospitalization several times. Perry has been treated for many health conditions like pancreatitis, a colon burst, and gastrointestinal issues due to his addiction.
However, the actor became an advocate for rehab and drug control. He even received the Champion of Drug Recovery Award from the White House in 2013. Perry also opened a rehabilitation center at Perry House, his mansion in Malibu.

Kenneth Iwamasa has pleaded guilty to administering ketamine to Matthew Perry on the actor's request, despite an absence of medical training. The investigation is still ongoing, to explore the role of the other four arrested persons in the case.
