The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is back for its second season, and in this case our favorite crossbow-wielding zombie killer has backup. The second season is entitled The Book of Carol, where Melissa McBride, who's been a series regular since the first season of the iconic show, learns that her longtime companion is in danger.

And she sets her sights halfway across the world in the zombie-ridden France to find Dixon. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2 explores the unmatched bond between these two fan favorite characters. One that has been the subject of much discourse on social media for several years now.

We asked the cast of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2 to define the relationship between Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier during a roundtable interview. Just like social media, there was no one definitive answer to the question.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2 casts dubbed Carol and Daryl everything from soulmates to best friends

Even though Anne Charrier plays Genet, the ultimate villain of the series, she was extremely personable and polite during the interview. She tried her best to explain the bond that Carol and Daryl share:

"I would say they are family. I would say it’s something like a brotherhood. Something that is very strong. They both lost their families at the same time. Nearly at the same time. So, I’ve always seen it that way."

Carol Peletier loses her daughter Sophia very early on in The Walking Dead. Daryl Dixon experiences just as massive a loss, whose complex relationship with his brother Merle ends early in the series. According to Charrier, this forms a special bond between the two:

"Like you say soulmates that meet at a moment…they become family because it’s the right moment for them."

The actor went on to state how their relationship is not romantic in nature, something she sees as a positive in this era of television:

"And my point of view, I feel it’s very rich as well to have now in production for TV relationships between a woman and a man that are not romantic. And that’s what makes it so special as well, you know."

Romain Levi, who plays Codron, was the other big bad in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 1. During the interview, he stated how it is impossible to define the relationship between both characters:

"It’s a good question and I’m not sure there’s a great answer about that because there are so many beautiful things between them you know. Maybe, a love relationship. Maybe a friend relationship. Soulmates. I myself don’t know what will happen between the two of them. Everything is possible in a way."

Veteran actor Eriq Ebouaney plays Fallou in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. Just like his instantly lovable character, Ebouaney is a romantic who believes in the concept of soulmates.

"I personally think they are soulmates you know. Carol’s soul was looking for Daryl’s soul in Europe and in France. Two soulmates yeah. Very very good to watch them."

Louis Puech Scigliuzzi, who plays Laurent, the child Messiah, has a shorter answer:

They’re just best friends forever, aren’t they?
