Chet Hanks has recently responded to a report claiming that the White Boy Summer meme was being used by hate groups. Hanks started the trend in April 2021 to play off trends such as Hot Girl Summer and Christian Girl Autumn and started using it frequently.

The actor took to his Instagram page on July 3, 2024, where he shared a statement, criticizing the use of the phrase by the white supremacist groups. He started by writing,

"White boy summer was created to be fun, playful, and a celebration of fly white boys who love beautiful queens of every race. Anything else that it has been twisted into to support any kind of hate or bigotry against any group of people is deplorable and I condemn it."

Chet Hanks also stated he expects everyone to "spread love to each other and treat each other with kindness and dignity." Netizens praised the musician for clarifying the meaning behind the phrase.

The Global Project Against Hate and Extremism shared the report of the phrase being used for hate. The project's official website stated that American extremist groups such as Proud Boys co-opted the phrase in 2021 and others have used it, including the neo-Nazi group Nationalist Social Club.

The website additionally stated that the supremacist network White Lives Matter also organized marches in June 2021 to link the phrase with white supremacist activism. The neo-Nazi political party Die Heimat used the phrase the same year while they addressed the measures related to Covid-19 alongside the problems of the globalists.

When Chet first launched the trend, he laid down a few rules for the same, including that people need to wear black or white T-shirts. He did not allow Sperry Top-Siders and boat shoes.
