The View's host, Whoopi Goldberg, criticized former US President Donald Trump's 17-year-old granddaughter, Kai Trump, for her remarks on July 18, 2024. Goldberg was responding to Kai praising her grandfather and calling him "just a regular grandpa" on Wednesday, July 17, 2024.
As she spoke about her grandfather, Kai said that he was like a "normal grandpa" who offered her candy and soda when her parents weren't looking. She continued by saying that Kai was trying to change people's "idea about who this guy is."

However, once netizens saw the episode of The View, they began calling out and criticizing Whoopi Goldberg for attacking the teen. Social media users took to X to call Goldberg "the worst," as others said that she needed to be canceled.

Whoopi Goldberg warned the audience of The View on Thursday, July 18, 2024, not to fall for Kai Trump's remarks regarding her grandfather, Donald Trump. The actor further claimed that the purpose of the teenager’s speech was to humanize Trump and alter people's perceptions of him.
Goldberg added how terrible she thinks Trump is for the nation. She also warned The View audience the day before Kai’s speech and said that they are "all in danger" if Trump is elected in the upcoming elections.
Whoopi Goldberg also reaffirmed her belief that Joe Biden is qualified to seek re-election.
“I don’t care how old you are. I don’t care if you can’t put two sentences together. If you get the job done, then I’m gonna follow you because that’s what I’m looking for," Goldberg said.
Goldberg's comments came after Kai spoke at the Republican National Convention and said that she wanted to show people "a side of my grandpa" that they "don't often see." According to the 17-year-old, the former president is like a typical grandpa who treats her to soda and candies when her parents aren't there.
She claimed that the point of the media was to demonize Trump. The teen said that when she made the high honor roll, he printed it out to show to his friends because he was incredibly proud of her. Kai added that her grandpa was "very caring and loving," and he "truly wants the best for this country."
