Cheryl Hines, the Emmy-nominated star of Curb Your Enthusiasm, married well-known lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in August 2014. The couple's union came as a surprise to some of Hines' friends, who were reportedly "mystified" by her decision, given Kennedy’s controversial past.
Kennedy, 70, has long been linked to scandalous relationships, which were chronicled in his 2015 biography RFK Jr.: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the Dark Side of the Dream by author Jerry Oppenheimer. The biography outlined Kennedy’s involvement in multiple extramarital affairs.
A glimpse at Cheryl Hines' career
Despite these revelations, Cheryl Hines and Kennedy moved forward with their relationship, which began in 2011. Jerry Oppenheimer, a longtime friend of Kennedy, attended the wedding, which took place in Massachusetts. In his book, he quoted Larry David, Hines’ Curb Your Enthusiasm co-star, who humorously remarked that “nothing [Kennedy does] will ever rattle her”.
The couple had become engaged in April 2014, which followed cheating rumors surrounding Kennedy and socialite Chelsea Chapman Kirwan. These allegations did not seem to halt their relationship's progress and they got married on August 2, 2014, at the Kennedy Compound on Cape Cod.
Cheryl Hines was born on September 21, 1965, in Miami Beach, Florida. She was involved in the Young Actors Theatre and attended the Lively Technical College and Tallahassee Community College. As an aspiring actress, Hines worked as a waitress and a television reporter. She finally got introduced to improvisational comedy at the Groundlings Theater in Los Angeles where she prepared for her acting job.
Cheryl Hines got her big break in 2000 when she was cast in the recurring role of Cheryl David on the HBO comedy series Curb Your Enthusiasm. The role got her two Emmy nominations in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2003 and 2006.
In the 2000s and 2010s, Cheryl Hines acted in TV shows like Everybody Loves Raymond, Scrubs, and Suburgatory. In 2009 she directed her first film, Serious Moonlight, a dark comedy with Meg Ryan in lead role. Hines has also done voice acting for animation films like All in the Bunker and Space Chimps 2: Zartog Strikes Back.
Cheryl Hines was first married to Paul Young, founder of the management firm Principato-Young, with whom she had a first child, Catherine. The couple separated in the year 2010 and later they got divorced.
More recently, rumors emerged that Kennedy had been in a romantic relationship with political reporter Olivia Nuzzi, who wrote a profile of his work for New York magazine. While Nuzzi admitted that her communication with Kennedy became personal, she denied any physical involvement.
Despite these controversies, Hines has remained focused on her career and philanthropic work. She actively supports United Cerebral Palsy, a cause close to her heart since her nephew was born with cerebral palsy. She even helped raise $25,000 for the organization during an episode of Celebrity Family Feud.
