On Saturday, July 6, Vanessa Morgan announced on Instagram that she and her boyfriend, James Karnik, are expecting their first child, a girl. Vanessa also shares a son with her ex-husband, Michael Kopech.
She announced the news by uploading several pictures with the caption,
“So in love with this man, our family of 4 coming this month. Surprise! Thank you GOD.”
James also posted a picture of him and Vanessa in black and white with the caption,
"Holdin BOTH my girls at the same time."
James Karnik is a professional basketball player and a Canadian Elite Basketball League team member, the Vancouver Bandits.

Vanessa shared pictures of her growing baby bump on Instagram, with her partner, James Karni. In the post, James holds Vanessa in one arm and another hand over her baby bump, in the first carousel picture.
Vanessa has a three-year-old child named River, with Chicago White Sox player Michael Kopech, her ex-husband. They announced their engagement in July 2019, were married in early January 2020, and ended their relationship in June 2020, six months later. The following month, Vanessa made her pregnancy public and in January 2021, she gave birth to her son.
On March 11, Vanessa mentioned in the podcast Broad Ideas with Rachel Bilson & Olivia Allen that while Michael is still a part of River's life, James has grown to be a dependable figure for River. In the same podcast, she further said,
"At least [River] will always know that my partner now has been there from what he will remember, as the beginning, they’re together every single day... he looks at him like a father figure."

Vanessa Morgan Mziray is from Canada. In 2000, Morgan made her acting debut in the VH1 movie A Diva's Christmas Carol. Two years later, she returned to the screen for the movie Frankie & Alice. She then became well known for her portrayal of Toni Topaz in The CW teen drama show Riverdale, which ran from 2017 to 2023.
She also played Amanda Pierce in the teen comedy series The Latest Buzz, Beatrix "Bird" Castro in the MTV teen drama series Finding Carter, and Sarah in the Disney Channel/Teletoon feature My Babysitter's a Vampire and the television series of the same name. She also portrayed Marion Hawthorne in the Disney movie Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars (2010).
Morgan received a nomination at the Leo Awards in 2024 for Best Lead Performance Dramatic Series for her role in Wild Cards.
She is also a vocalist. Morgan took home the Junior Miss America title and the National Date Festival's top vocalist award in 1999. She also took home the top prize in the African-American Vocal Competition in 2000.
