Well-known Chilean actor Alex Araya was found dead on June 7, 2024, in his Airbnb in Medellin, Colombia after he allegedly went on a date with two women a day ago. He met the women on Tinder and surveillance footage revealed that the latter reportedly came out of his Airbnb in two hours after going in at 11:30 p.m.
Also known as Alex Andres Araya Castillo, he started his career on stage and was an expert in musical instruments and martial arts. Araya was on vacation in Medellin since June 1 and it was supposed to end on June 11. However, the cause of death has not been revealed until now.
Furthermore, his family members also believe that he has possibly died from the complications of a drug called burundanga or scopolamine. The drug has various side effects and can make anyone unconscious in 24 hours or lead to his or her death.
Alex Araya's body was found by an Airbnb employee during cleaning. Initial investigations found no evidence pointing to the cause of his death. Police are now searching for two women who were with Araya at the Airbnb. His personal belongings, including credit cards and mobile phone, were missing when he was discovered.
Alex Araya's brother believes that he was possibly a victim of robbery
As mentioned, Alex Araya was on vacation when he died and his brother Eduardo appeared for an interview with La Tercera, addressing Alex's sudden demise. Eduardo revealed that Alex decided to meet the women from Tinder on June 3 and 6.
While Eduardo also confirmed that Alex's cards and other belongings were missing, he claimed that the two women were possibly members of some criminal group involved in robberies. He further stated:
"They left him naked on the bed, face down. He had no separate signs of violence by third parties, but the truth is that there is very little clarity about what happened."
Alex Araya's family even disclosed that they have received support from the Chilean Consulate in Colombia and are having trouble finding someone who could provide them with more details. Eduardo said that it took around four days to confirm Alex's identity and continued:
"I think we have been able to do things more quickly than in other cases, they have helped us a lot, but I find that there is a lot of disconnection between the consulate and the State of Colombia."
Eduardo mentioned that the family is working to bring Alex's dead body back to his home. He stated that they have started the paperwork and are cooperating with the consulate to stay updated with the investigation.
Alex served as a lightning technician at the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center at the time of his death. He was even active on Instagram with more than 1,000 followers and the account is currently set to private. Furthermore, detailed information on his educational background and personal life is currently awaited.
