In an announcement on Instagram, shared on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, Parenthood star, Mae Whitman revealed that she welcomed her first child. In her Instagram post, the actress also shared that her son was named after her Parenthood co-star Miles Heizer.
In her caption, she wrote that she had recently given birth to her son, Miles, adding that they "were besotted" from the moment they "heard the first tiny sound" out of his mouth. Noting that he was their "best friend," Mae revealed that her son was "pretty much exactly like his namesake Uncle Miles."
"Not to be a Bieber about it but I too just gave birth to our son, Miles. From the moment we heard the first tiny sound out of his tiny piggy mouth we were besotted. He is the kindest, gentlest, smartest, funniest little beebee and he’s our best friend (pretty much exactly like his namesake Uncle Miles @younggoth)," Whitman wrote.
Mae Whitman and Miles Heizer starred in the NBC family drama as siblings Amber and Andrew "Drew" Holt. Lauren Graham played the role of their mother, Sarah Braverman, on the show, which followed the lives of three generations of the Braverman family. The show ran from 2010 to 2015, and Mae and Miles have remained close friends even after the show ended.
In her caption, Mae also thanked her midwife, Caryn Fields, doctor Bente Kaise, along with the staff at Moxie Birth and the Huntington Hospital in Pasadena, California.

Mae Whitman and Miles Heizer's Parenthood characters had a close relationship with each other, which continued even in their real lives after the show was done filming. In Parenthood, Drew often turned to his elder sister for advice, and Amber often gave Drew dating advice like how to behave on a date or how to kiss a girl. The siblings, especially Amber, were incredibly protective and supportive of each other.
In the final season of the show, Amber is pregnant and gives birth to a son, Zeek. He is named after the Braverman patriarch, Ezekiel "Zeek" Braverman (Craig T. Nelson).
Mae Whitman, known for her role in The DUFF, announced her pregnancy in May in an Instagram post. The post featured Miles Heizer and Lauren Graham, her on-screen brother and mom. While a few of the photos were of her real-life pregnancy, she also added some from the final season of Parenthood when she was pregnant.
"not to make a parenthood episode out of it or anything but!!! Mother’s Day looking a little different this year! can’t wait to meet you, huge baby kicking my insides to filth! #ruveal," the actress wrote in the caption.
In a 2014 interview with Glamour, Mae Whitman spoke about her close friendship with Miles Heizer. She revealed that they were roommates and called him special. Mae added that he was "the most talented musician and actor" and that she could "see him take off." The Good Girls star also noted that Miles was "crazy hot," before adding that it was "gross" because he was like her little brother.
"I envision wanting to live in a house next to him for my whole life and grow old down the street from him. I want our families to always be entwined," the actress said.
Apart from Drew on Parenthood, Miles also played the role of Alex Standall in 13 Reasons Why and Cal on Love, Simon. He has been a part of films like Nerve, Rails & Ties, and Ex-Husbands.
Meanwhile, Mae Whitman began her career as a child actor and has appeared in several hit films and shows. These include When a Man Loves a Woman (1994), Independence Day (1996), JAG (1998-2001), and Chicago Hope (1996-1999).
She gained prominence after she appeared in the Fox sitcom Arrested Development and NBC's Parenthood. She is one of the three leads of the Netflix series Good Girls and the lead in the 2015 film, The DUFF. Whitman is also a voice actor who has lent her voice to films like Tinker Bell (2008) and Johnny Bravo.
The actress has yet to reveal the identity of her baby's father.
