Slow Horses is back for a fourth season, which is replete with just as much action, excitement, comedy, and silliness as the ones preceding it. While the circumstances and the story may be different, the characters are still very much their inept, incompetent, and obnoxious selves.

However, no one is more so than Roddy Ho, played by Christopher Chung. The actor is almost nothing like his character on the show. Chung spoke to Sportskeeda about how he managed to channel into his Slow Horses persona and create a character that is so very obnoxious and still quite likable, so many seasons into the show.

Of course, we had to ask him if Christopher Chung, the actor, would get along with Roddy Ho, the character, in a real-life setting.

"That's such a good question. Yeah I think so. I think I'm quite a compassionate and understanding person. I put a lot of time into understanding why people are the way that they are. Which is why I am an actor. Which is why I think Roddy would be an excellent case study in figuring out the way he works and why he is this way," he said.

Christopher Chung took the time to understand the humanity behind his Slow Horses character

Chung has balanced a tightrope over four seasons now, considering that Ho has several innate unlikable qualities, and yet, he is one of the good guys. Speaking to Sportskeeda, Chung explained the blueprint behind his Slow Horses character.

"I think it's like all the characters in Slow Horses, it's like finding the humanity within them. And I think that's what is so unique about the show is that it shows us as human beings and individuals before our profession, which is being a spy," Chung noted.

Even if the decisions that Roddy Ho makes in Slow Horses season 4 may come off as shocking to the audience member, Chung understands why he's behaving the way he is.

"So I think with Roddy in particular I did a lot of backstory on making him slightly neurodivergent and slightly on the spectrum. So it made it easy for me to empathize with him. Where he was coming from from certain points of view that he had."

The Slow Horses star then painted a picture of the motivations of his character. He said that one of the "strongholds" of the character across all seasons is that "he never says anything from a truly malicious and aggressive place."

Chung is aware that Ho might come across as arrogant to the Slow Horses audience that tunes in on Apple TV+. This is because he is completely unaware of people's feelings.

"It's just how he sees the world and he doesn't have empathy for other peoples' feelings. So, that's how I crafted him in that space. He comes across as quite obnoxious and quite arrogant," Chung stated.

That says, Chung believes that Ho is much more than just a techie with a difficult attitude. He's much, much more.

"This is why I find it hurtful sometimes when people reduce him down to being an obnoxius tech. An arrogant prick. Because I know him. I'm quite close to him now. I see all the layers that he goes through."
