Plot summary

One Hundred Years of Solitude tells the story of the Buendía family over many generations. It begins with cousins José Arcadio and Úrsula, who leave their village and create the magical town of Macondo.

As they build their ideal world, the Buendía family faces love, war, madness, and a powerful curse that keeps them isolated for 100 years. The narrative mixes magical realism with real human experiences, showing how time, memory, and fate are connected. Macondo town serves as the backdrop for a tale of impossible love stories, family struggles, and destiny.

In an interview with Tudum on October 8, 2024, director Alex García López shared his experience on working on this project. He was in-charge of directing five episodes: 1, 2, 3, 7, and 8.

López said:

“Directing this project has been both a challenge and an adventure; after all, in life, taking risks is necessary to give meaning to what we do. When diving into the adaptation of One Hundred Years of Solitude, my intention was to create something authentic that carries the stature of an international production, because the story deserves it."

Meanwhile, Laura Mora who directed epiodes 4, 5 and 6 also talked about understanding "the difference between the literary and audiovisual languages" to depict "the beauty, poetry and depth" of the novel on-screen.

"We’ve done it with love and respect for the novel, with the support of an exceptional technical and human team."
