Only Murders in the Building season 4 episode 3 ending explained: A list of false suspects
This episode of Only Murders in the Building season 4 picked up immediately after the previous episode, where Oliver and Mabel snooped around enough to find something fishy in the West Tower. Moreover, the trio also discovered Sazz's last message, which confirmed that whoever killed Sazz was actually after Charles.
With this revelation, this episode saw our three protagonists get more serious about the West Wing, theorizing who would want Charles dead and why. Soon, they were joined by the three actors introduced in the pilot: Eva Longoria, Zach Galifianakis, and Eugene Levy. They joined the trio in the investigation as a part of their character study.
The three pairs, Eva and Mabel, Charles and Eugene, and Oliver and Zach, each commence their respective investigations. The episode took viewers across several hilarious situations involving the offbeat characters from the West Tower. This also involved one hilarious sequence featuring Kumail Nainjiani.
However, by the end of the episode, all the theories fall flat as the trio realizes that none of the residents they suspected had any solid motive for killing Charles. Instead, they discovered that there may be someone more sinister on the other end, as revealed by the final revelation.
What was 445, and who was Hammy Faye Baker?
After her experience with Longoria, Mabel decides to squatter in Dudenoff's apartment, where they think the shot was fired from. While they wait for Dudenoff to make a move and come to the house, Mabel hums The Perfect Stranger, which she first heard on Rudy’s ham radio. This reminds Oliver that someone came on the line asking to meet him at 445. They decipher that it was a frequency of the radio.
As the trio tune in to the 445Hz on the radio, a mysterious voice greets them and warns them to stop following these leads. The voice also reveals that the last person (possibly Sazz) who tried this, ended up dead.
The voice also calls the pig in the apartment "Hammy Faye Bakker," to which the pig responds. This establishes a connection between the pig they found and whoever the killer is. Moreover, the mystery of the pig's name is solved in this sequence.
This also creates a cascading mystery for the upcoming episodes as the trio remains clueless about who is behind all this, and the figure seems to be far more sinister than what we initially imagined.
The upcoming episode of Only Murders in the Building season 4 will continue the story in the coming week.
