Only Murders in the Building season 4 returned with its third episode of the season on September 10, 2024, on Hulu, continuing the terrific mystery of Sazz's (played by Jane Lynch) murder. The third episode of the show brought back the unique trio of Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis and Eva Longoria, who aided our three protagonists, Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez).

Only Murders in the Building season 4 episode 3 was just as rich in comedy but did not feel as well-rounded as the second episode, which checked every box. Despite that, this episode significantly advanced the narrative and provided some extremely interesting humor, even adding some very offbeat characters to the mix.

In essence, Only Murders in the Buiding season 4 is shaping up to be just as interesting as the previous seasons of the show. Read on for a full review.

Only Murders in the Buiding season 4, episode 3 review: A slightly slower episode with a lot of fun

The only reason the third episode of Only Murders in the Building season 4 may feel a little tired is because the second episode was such a blast. With so many great set pieces and a perfect blend of emotion and humor, the second episode stood out significantly. Following it up was not an easy job, but the third one did it with conviction and a lot of humor.

Throwing the three misfit actors, Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis, and Eva Longoria, back in the mix, this episode was heavy on humor and had a lot of things going on.

For instance, this new pairing of Longoria and Mabel and Oliver and Zach yielded great results. As for Eugene Levy and Charles, they were perhaps the best part about this episode in their investigation into Charles' next-building neighbor with an eye problem.

They also effectively delivered a very intriguing scene together, trying to convince Vince Fish to take off his eye patch in a bid to confirm their theory about a sniper recoil injury. The same can be said about Gomez and Longoria, whose chemistry paid off brilliantly opposite Kumail Nainjiani's offbeat Christmas fitness influencer.

Overall, this episode had many, many great moments, but it just didn't feel narratively as solid as the previous one, which had a great blend of emotions. But this episode is perhaps leading to something much bigger.

The ending of Only Murders in the Building season 4 episode 3 hinted at something much bigger

Although the rest of the episode did not progress the narrative by a lot, the ending gave a shocker after the trio deciphered the meaning of 445 and tuned the radio to that frequency. They were greeted by an unfamiliar voice, who warned the three to stay away from snooping around, claiming that the last one who tried ended up dead (referring to Sazz, possibly).

The voice on the radio also seemed to recognize the pig in the room, calling it "Hammy Faye Bakker." All this left the episode on a confusing note, but it also promised big things in the coming episodes.

It seems that the episode was deliberately vague towards the end. This is a common whodunnit trope and has worked wonders for stories in the past.

Overall, the third episode of Only Murders in the Building season 4 was slower, and didn't take the narrative forward a lot but was plenty of fun. It was perhaps a tribute to the show's comic side. The show continues to remain sharp well into the fourth season.
