Only Murders in the Building Season 4 has debuted another episode just past the halfway mark of the new season, bringing back another exciting twist in the narrative that has already been quite perfect so far. This episode, titled Blow-Up, was perhaps one of the most intriguing episodes of the show so far, primarily because of the style and approach.
Just like the brief synopsis of the episode suggested, this entire episode was shot in documentary style through various different cameras, which were also cleverly inserted into the episode and were explained very well.
To top this extremely stylish episode off, it also contained some of the most exciting plot twists we have seen in recent episodes. By the end of the episode, the changes in the narrative were so well done that the story got a new meaning entirely.
All in all, Only Murders in the Building Season 4 Episode 6 was perhaps one of the finest episodes not only in this season but perhaps in the entire history of the show.
*Warning- There may be major spoilers for Only Murders in the Building Season 4 Episode 6 ahead.
Only Murders in the Building Season 4 Episode 6 was the most stylish episode of the series so far
As described in the synopsis, this episode dealt with Tawny and Trina Brothers (Siena Werber and Catherine Cohen) making a documentary movie inside the podcast adaptation- a film within a film, a concept that was popularized by European cinema of the past.
This entire episode was shot through handheld and hidden cameras, giving the look and feel of a documentary, while also cleverly explaining how these cameras happened to be at the places they were. The found footage approach of the episode was enough to hook fans in as this episode seemed more stylish than anything that has appeared in the show before.
Only Murders in the Building Season 4 Episode 6 did dabble in a lot of experimental styles before, but none quite did what this one did. Moreover, alongside the stylish approach, this episode also had a brilliant plot that advanced the narrative significantly while also making things much more interesting.
The style does not overpower the substance in Only Murders in the Building Season 4 Episode 6
Rarely does a show balance style and substance as well as this one has. This episode kicked off with a huge event, where Zach Galifianakis was shot and Oliver narrowly survived an assassination attempt. It went on to establish a crucial connection between Dudenoff and the Brothers sisters, who were the chief suspects going into this episode.
However, as the investigation proceeded, things turned out to be very different. The trio first realized that there were two murders in the building as they found a shoulder replacement that did not belong to Sazz in her remains. Moreover, they went on to assume that Dudenoff killed someone and had Sazz killed to stop the trio from uncovering the murder.
But the episode threw in another big twist, where it was revealed that it was Dudenoff who was murdered. The final minutes of the episode also revealed that whoever the killer was, had planted secret cameras in Charles, Mabel, and Oliver's houses, and was monitoring them.
The episode ended with the trio receiving a threatening message from Sazz's stolen phone, which warned them that they were being watched.
All this combined made this one of the most exciting episodes to come out of the series, and it also established enough to make the rest of the season very interesting.
Only Murders in Building Season 4 Episode 6 is now available for streaming on Hulu.
