Outer Banks season 4 and the legend of Blackbeard
The show's creator Josh Pate spoke about what to expect from Outer Banks season 4 in an interview with Tudum by Netflix:
".....we’re going to fill in some gaps in the 18 months. We felt like we needed to migrate them out of school. We think about the first three [seasons] as a trilogy and then we’re starting over on [another sort of] trilogy now. We just needed to clear the decks. We’re going to have new villains, a new treasure hunt, a new life situation."
As shown in the last moments of the season 3 finale, the gang is gearing up for a new adventure in the form of Blackbeard's hidden treasure.
Blackbeard was a 17th-century pirate who commanded the ship Queen Anne’s Revenge and was widely feared for being a ruthless and violent killer. After years of looting and plundering other ships for their cargo, his ship finally went down in 1718 after hitting a sandbar. Its wreckage was found to be approximately 200 miles south of the Outer Banks in an area known as Beaufort.
It will be interesting to see how the showrunners incorporate the elements of the real-life lore in Outer Banks season 4. If their track record is anything to go by, fans have nothing to worry about.
When will Outer Banks season 4 be released?
Not long after season 4 was announced, the writer's and SAG strike hit Hollywood and delayed production of the upcoming series. After the months-long strike ended, fans were delighted to learn that the teen drama had begun filming in November 2023 in Wilmington, North Carolina. As of May 2024, the cast was still busy shooting the latest season.
Therefore, Outer Banks season 4 will most likely premiere before the end of the year. However, Netflix has not made any official announcements as of this writing.
